Fri-Sat Skytrain

Okay so pretty much i had a sweet saturday night, checked out "blue" for Neohs Bday,,, had a great time! I assumed the last skytrain from w/f was at 1;38, as it was when i was a yungin.... (My bad for Ass-U-Me-ing such a thing) but either way.... My bf and i missed our train.

We had to take the stupid nightbus for like 2 hrs to get home and wait for 1/2 n hour in the pouring rain for it.

NOW for my vent... Yes,(before anyone points out the obvious) i fucked up by missing my train...True! Regardless, WHY IN THE HELL do they keep our clubs open till 4 am, (or even 2) and not have the skytrains run that long. They want people to not drive drunk, they want us to utilze public transit yet its such BULLSHIT! Headliners in Van usually come on at 12... im not going to PAY to see someone, and leave half an hr into their set. WTF! I dont see why they dont just have like... 2 night busses (One to richmond, one to n. van) and have the sky train running till 4. Could it really cost that much more than supplying like 18 busses that take hours upon hours to get anywhere? URGHT! I send a giant :211: to translink on this one.

GOODDAY!

I had the same problem when I lived in Surrey. But now the NightBus stops right outside my Building and the last one of those leaves at 3:36. I agree with you, they should go to at least 2:30.

yea i took the n.bus and it stopped right outside my house as well... so no complaints on that... but i mean... i was out... at a club, i wasn't exactly wearing sweats, runners and a parka for BUS comfort... so to say the least, a crazy short pleated mini skirt was not comfy on a bus for 2hrs. Sky train i can handle cause thats like 30 mins. In some euro countries it runs all night and its free past a certain time. We only get that on new years. :P

That's why it's Europe and not North America. I'd move in a flash.

I have to bitch on this one too...It would just be simply so much easier if they just had skytrains run all night...I am sure they can find people to work night shifts...

^^ I would have to agree with you. I think it's so stupid that if I want to go down town my last skytrain to get back to lougheed mall is at 12:30. I'm sure they could work a night shift.

why be so angry about something you can't control. it's not like you got stuck dt. why not make a post about how happy you are that you made it home, 'thank you night bus'

get a car, don't drink and then you can leave the club at whatever time you'd like. get a friend to drive you. take a cab. it's not like you dont' have options on how to get home.

at least u have a night bus..
my last bus home is at 1:07am.. and 12:07am on sundays...

wtf man if i go downtown i have to leave at like 11:45 to catch my last bus.. THATS NOT FAIR...

fuck thats why i miss back east buses runned til like 3 or 4am.. and start again at 5am.. so pretty much most buses stopepd for an hour.. and the metro.. hell that runned pretty late. actually i think maybe all night.. dont remember...

stupid transit in BC..

oh but wait.. they raised the prices for fucking fares so that they could replace buses in vancouver and get a couple new bus lines going.. for VANCOUVER.. but they cant afford to use some of that money to like maybe get later bus times..??? for the outskirts..

thats not fair... to my knowledge the buses downtown run perfectly well.. sure their old.. but they still drive... or maybe get those old buses and switch them for new ones.. put the old one's in other neighbourhoods outside vancouver.

gawd.

Carrie:

we HAVE a car, we chose not to Drive for obvious reasons ( wanted to have maybe one drink, which we did, have ONE,)

two: you say MOVE? sorry but we cant afford to live DOWNTOWN,

three: a cab?! thats why she posted, a cab to surrey from downtown woudl cost almost 50 bux,

anyways, thanks for your input:D

i would like to see the skytrain run alot longer as well, they talk about making more buses and such, but thats even more expenisve then running a skytrain most likely

im done bitching

Making the skytrain run longer hours is impossible, since its very expensive and not that many ppl go on it

I remember going home in the summer everyday from Production Way and being the only person on the train.

PS:Bryan u homo I couldve had one of my groupies drive me home

tsk tsk

I see what your saying, but with all due respect i put this in the punching bag section... so if you weren't prepared to read someones 'rant' then um... :S sorry lol

Also, i just dont see why its such a better idea to have like 18 busses running till 4 am, but not skytrain :S its weird. I mean, im not the gov't or anything, but it kinda seems like fueling and staffing busses all hrs of the night would be more or the same expense as running the train that late.

Either way, i am definatly thankful i got home for 2 bucks rather than maxing my visa even further by cabbing it... but even an hour and a half later on the sky train... JUST an 1 1/2 would be SO so nice.

whats the problem with having ONE drink when you arrive then when you're ready to leave then you can drive.

and I didn't say move downtown. there are many areas in vancouver that have access to the night bus.

and the city doesn't want to keep the skytrain running all night because they know that people will be drunk and they won't end up paying for the skytrain. they'll just lose money on it.

well.. maybe I think that this isn't much of a problem and I'm posting to tell you that you shouldn't be so angry over something that you cannot do anything about.

if you're so dedicated about this issue, write a letter to someone that may be able to do something.

and do you expect everyone on fnk.ca to just give you a hug and understand.

I'm probably not the only one that doens't see this as a BIG problem like your making it seem it is.

find someone that you know that lives in vancouver and crash on the couch. it's not the end of the world.

Thank god I live downtown now.... this was always a pain in the ass for me when i lived out in coquitlam.

totally untrue. I used to take the nightbus/ last 97 bline all the time: they were always near full, many times I couldnt even find a seat.

What do you know?... lets see some figures to quantify that. They're spending a lot of money right now; they've recently decided to put an LRT line from coquitlam station to lougheed mall which will cost them hundreds of millions of dollars... keeping the skytrain open a few extra hours, meh, its pocket change in comparison. Not to mention, they've jacked up the fairs and rider is up 8%.

If they knew nobody would pay, they could just hand out fines like crazy, which would make them a tonne of $$$.

One thing I don't understand is, do they really have a duty of care towards their latenight customers? I mean, they're seperate businesses.. It would be nice if they kept it open, but is it expected of them?

I know that a lot of people don't pay to get on the skytrain, and they know that the 40$ fine doesn't scare anyone. so they raised the fine to something like 175$ (don't quote me on that, I don't remember the exact amount)

also, it is a business! if they decide to close at night, thats they're decision.

you don't see retail outlets open 24/7 so that people can shop at 4am?

i'll bet the cost of running all the nighbusses combined is the same cost as running the skytrain, and they had to choose.
the skytrain only serves a select number of people who live near it.
the night bus serves alot more.
richmond and south east van to name a couple.

Ok... good analogy, but it doesnt quite work. remember the transit strikes a couple years ago? Transit was deemed an essential service... it just seems like a real gray area to me

Thats when they make all the bling; from the people who don't pay!

I think you meant to say that only a small portion of a minorty of the population would choose to ride the skytrain home every night. hence the operation $ will be greater than the $ tickets purchased.

it took many months for them to get transit back up and running.

and what did we have to do? live without it. and we did.

I walked for 45-60 min to school. it wasn't fun, but i had no choice.
