Roger Sanchez @ Plush - What an upset!

Just wanted to thank Cargo and all those at Plush for hosting one of the worst organized parties ever.

My friends and I new that this event would have a pretty big turn out so we bought advance tickets. We thought that $40 bucks for advance tickets was pretty steep, especially considering that we moved here recently from Toronto where we usually didnt pay more than $20 for a party...But...we figured if we wanted to see a good DJ in Vancouver, then we had no choice but to fork out the money.

Well it was the worst money ever spent because once we got there, my friends and I, along with a line of other tickets holders, all had to stand outside waiting for at least 2 hours to get in!!!

My boyfriend spent his birthday waiting in a stupid line that wouldnt move, while I watched all the friends of staff members walk right in...even after they claimed that it was past capacity.

By the time we got in, it was almost 2am!! We walked around and noticed that it wasnt even packed. So in an effort to blow off some steam, we immediately starting having some drinks. Then we danced for a bit and before we knew it the party was shut down, and we had only been there for an hour.

I've been partying for a long time and have been fortunate enough to party in different cities. I'm really into house music and this scene has always meant a lot to me. So my question is, who the heck shuts down a party at 3?! ESPECIALLY if you paid that much and have went through that much just to get in.

Even Roger Sanchez made a comment at the end about Vancouver not being like Montreal or other cities where they let DJs play 14 hour sets.

Vancouver is a beautiful city and all but the party scene needs a lot of work!

What a disappointment

goof, it's a fucking nightclub. What do you expect.

Let's do some math:
you waited 2 hours in lineup...and you say you got in at 2am.
Presale or not, you're going to be waiting in line if you go to a busy clubnight at midnight.

Lesson learned on your behalf. Nobody made you fork out $40 for sanchez.

welcome to the no fun city

Things should get better towards 2010

Even if you have a ticket, arriving after 12 in Vancouver is a bad idea

First of all, its your own fault for having to wait in line for 2 hours. Take it as a lesson, and next time show up when the night starts!

Second, all clubs in vancouver close at 2AM or 3AM. If you don't like this fact, avoid club nights and goto raves!!!

That is all

Well I am someone who knows from experience that if you show up late to a club night that is sold out, the likelyhood of getting in fast (or in at all)is very slim.

I totally agree that you should arrive early for an event that is expected to have a huge number of people attending such as this, BUT waiting TWO HOURS is pretty unacceptable, especially for ticket holders. This is probably due to, overselling of tickets, overselling of tickets at door or slow moving doorstaff, which does boil down to poor planning on someone's part in the end. Waiting in line is definitely to be expected, always, but if this person is not exaggerating about the two hours part, their complaint is somewhat legitimate.

so buying presales shouldnt secure a placement at all, door sales or bust?

if there is a higher than anticipated door sale demand of course the promoter is not going to tell people wanting to pay 60+ (in this event's case) to go away.

first come first serve is what's in effect at sold out shows.. that is why it's best to get there early. just like how at raves we say "this event is sold out, so come early to guarantee that you'll get in" :)

Well judging by the response I probably shouldnt have said anything. People get so touchy when you complain about their city.

Maybe guys are used to getting to a party at 10 and leaving at 3. And maybe you're used to paying $40 to see a DJ. But I'm not. For at lot less money somewhere else or at least a city the same size of Vancouver, I could get to a club whenever, sometimes listen to more than one DJ and party til the wee hours of morning without having to go to a rave, where they dont serve alcohol and the crowd is not even out of highschool.

In terms of last night, the door people all knew that we all had tickets and still made us wait there for 2 hours. And yes it was 2 hours. They must have asked us at least 5 times if we had tickets, yet did nothing while friends of staff walked right in.

If we didnt have tickets and couldnt get in, we would've simply left and went somewhere else. But seeing as to how we already paid for them, we didnt have much of a choice. And besides, they told us that they'd get all ticket holders in. So they kept us all out there waiting. Not very professional. If you cant get ticket holders in within a resonable time, then dont sell tickets at all.

well they should, that's the whole point of presales. if they wanted to sell more door tickets at a higher price then they shouldn't have released so many presales.

Um honey.. to point out to you once again, it was a club night not a party. Our bars/club nights aren't operated like that, maybe some are in TO but not here. The latest clubs stay open till is 3am so you'd better get used to that and show up earlier next time.
Although I do agree that it was a little ridiculous that it took so long for you guys to get in. I know if that happened to me I'd be right pissed. It does kinda sound like the door was ill managed.
Better luck next time. :)

Alot of Vancity goer's arnt happy either with our stricked nightlife rules. Hence why I love to travel and get a taste of how the rest of the world partys 24/7 :p

Ive gone to alot of shows in the past year at Plush including 2 previouse Roger Sanches shows done by Cargo. I ususaly dont show up till around 11:30-12:30 and have never come close to experiencing anything like you did last night. I think the most Ive ever waited in line was maybe 15-20 minutes at John Digweed. Otherwise ive never seen a line longer than say 20-30 for a Plush event.

Like I said Vancouver has some bunk rules when it comes to doing clubs/raves... this also includes tons of paper work and licences wich lead to the a more expencive ticket price. At one point we did have our night life go untill 4am however the cops complained that the later nights = more fights and bralls.

Furthermore... I have to give a big thanx to Cargo, Blueprint, and Vivid who have finaly made seeing big talented DJ's a weekly thing in our city... whitch wasnt the case a few years ago.

Ladywonder: Vancouver isnt as big of a city like Montreal or Toronto... were still a few years/decade behind. However some citizens in this city dont want Vancouver to grow anymore and like its small uniquness just the way it is.

This was by far the worst thing I have EVER witnessed. Several things pissed me off about this scandal... just need to vent!

We got there at 11:45pm only to stand in a line that was about 15ft long, and not move for 2 HOURS!!! I would be OK with it, if throughout the wait, nobody else got in ... BUT THAT WAS NOT THE CASE! A good majority of the people waiting in front of the fencing, were let in because they blew someone who works there, or cause they know Johnny Four Fingers ... Whatever the case is, people who went out of their way during their busy week or weekend to go and buy ADVANCE tickets, putting valuable UP FRONT money into the promoters pockets to pay for up front costs of the party, should be given the opportunity to get in without waiting 2 hours!!!

When you're sitting in a line for 2 hours, you have lots of time to observe what the problem seems to be. You get to see people come into the mob at the front and get in within 5 minutes or less, WITHOUT TICKETS! You also get to witness the bouncers goofing around with one another when someone told them to let some people in. Best of all, you're witness to how the guestlist girl states that they are fighting with security to let us in, only to have security let in people from the mob in front of the fencing (who just got there, mind you!). Way to go!!!

Roger was ok ... I've seen better from him. Maybe I was too pissed off to even care...

Anyways, $40 to see Roger S play is only ever justified in Ibiza, maybe on New Year’s Eve, or if the venue is so small that it has a capacity between 500 and 800 people. What is wrong with people in this city that they can get away with this shit? I bought this ticket because I have no alternative. I’ve resigned myself to the fact that if I want to see a good, top-tier DJ in this city, I have to pay top dollar … but why? If in Edmonton, he was cheaper, and everywhere else in this country he was cheaper, why is it that we get to pay $40+??? This in addition to the fact that promoters in this city continuously pass on booking top talent, bringing in DJ’s perhaps once a year to satisfy the masses … Anyhow, I can understand having to pay a little more to book a DJ for a Friday night, but what was charged this night, for this SHITTY venue, was absurd!

This brings me to my next point. Plush SUCKS ... PERIOD! It's a shame to think that this is considered one of the better venues in this city. You all know my complaints about the organization of this club, but there is so much more to it. THE SOUND SYSTEM SUCKS! As a promoter, I would be so embarrassed to pay top dollar to bring in a world class DJ to play on such a shitty sound system. Roger's mess-ups were accentuated thanks to those shrilly speakers. The piercing highs leave you near-deaf for hours, and leave your head ringing. A GOOD SOUND SYSTEM WILL NOT DO THIS!!! If any of you have ever been to Gorgomish, you will appreciate the fact that you can stand right by the speakers all night, and hear crystal clear sound, without messing up your ears, or your head. Believe it or not, DJ's appreciate this, and it allows them to really let loose, without having to worry about being 100% perfect.

In addition to that, I remember for the past Sander party, a speaker right in front of me fell to the ground, because some retards decided to set up a VIP section behind the stage. Some genius sitting down behind the speaker knocked the speaker off the stage! After letting it sit for about a minute without any of the staff coming to pick it up, I picked it up with someone's help and put it back up. WTF is that? Anyways, I could go on, but why bother…

In conclusion, advance tickets should not be sold if they are going to have a hard time honouring each and every ticket sold. I can appreciate it if I came at 2am and was turned away, but at 11:45pm to be told every 20 minutes that we’re about to move, only for 2 hours to pass is insane. There is no excuse for it.

Whoever says get there earlier, probably doesn’t have to work late, and probably didn’t have to buy advance tickets because they’re the same ballwashers that kept getting in without having to wait. I bought a ticket to reserve my place inside that club, and I came at what is widely considered to be a somewhat decent time, only to be able to enjoy 1 good hour of the night.

Thanks for reading, I feel a lot better now getting this shit off my chest . Hopefully something is done about this BS.

wizzfish, that line was great!

Just an FYI...someone posted another board that they also had a ticket, got there at 11:30 and didnt get in at all.

oh well....guess he should've got there earlier right?

baby-phat...if it is just a "club night" then why sell tickets and why charge $40? Just have have $10 cover, first come first serve. There is a difference between regular clubs with regular cover and local talent, and ticketed parties at clubs featuring international talent. If I already paid my cover by buying a ticket, dont I have the right to go in when I get there or at least relatively quickly?

miss.myra...if you cant appreciate my rant than dont read it. But dont tell me to get over it. Afterall, it says I can bitch all I want in the "punching bad" forum
