yeah its true..........that vicious cycle you speak of. wearing makeup to cover up.........and then having your skin just never improve. its nice now that there is coverup and moisturizers specifically made for people with acne.

and avana i agree with you as well.........although i just met you the other night you have a beautiful complextion and classy is definitely a good word to describe how flawless your makeup is applied..............oh teach me.hahahah

yeah or atleast make them more affordable for teens with bad acne! lol... when you are young and have bad skin but very little money it's hard to find products to make it look better and help the problem at the same time.

I also agree wtih Avana. I myself don't wear a lot of make up, I just prefer not to and feel more comfortable that way. But for women who do prefer to wear more make up it's good to know that there actually is stuff out there to enhance their face and look as natural as possible without looking like they are wearing tons of make up.

Hehe - :kimmie: Thanks, that is sweet.

I paid $10,000 to learn that! :S

But I see a lot of girls on here do their make up fine. And others, they seriously look like the scary fat lady from Drew Carey.

It isn't so much about the product you use, because you could be using the cheapest line out there, it is how you use it.

I myself avoid the color baby blue. It tends to make almost EVERYONE look tired and haggard. It doesn't have good staying power and can look like crap by the end of the day.

Sparkles are another thing that most people should avoid, unless they know how to use them. They tend to look young and trashy.

And lets talk about smokey eyes.....The trick to a good make up application, is that the lines are not solid. They blend out and seem to flawlessly fade from one color, to another. DO NOT LEAVE A SOLID LINE LIKE A LEDGE. It looks unnatural, and funny.

Eyeliner - oh dear, where do I start with liner......it is not necessary to put it all the way around your eye. For some people, it looks scary. It can also give your eye the appearance that it is VERY small. Some of you can pull it off. How about the wings? I have never understood why people do the wings at the ends of their liner......it was the first no no we learned in make up school.....UGH.

Mascara, do not reapply again once the first coat has dried. Chunky soup eyelashes are not attractive...

Oh dear-I swear, end rant! :D

I've never been able to put eyeliner under my eyes, tried to but my eyes watered and blinked so bad I decided not to bother with it again. SOme girls can pull it off, some can't. :)

Hmm.. I'm starting to think we really do need a girly section on here!

^ haha I love the word haggard.. such a funny word. =P

ohh ok it's more about the way you put it on being more important than the product, that makes a lot more sense.. So it's probably a good thing I stick to small amounts of make up if any at all... apparently I really don't know much about it! bahahah oh lordy!

I’ve had bad skin for as long as I can remember.... That’s the number one reason I wear makeup...

Since I switched doctors and finally got off the waiting list to see one of the best dermatologists (sp?) in the lower mainland I feel a bit better. The first thing she said to me was that I was not allowed to wear foundation at all... I freaked... But learn to just be ok with my skin... If it’s bad or good.

I still now put on a little to cover up bad spots but I find that it just makes them look worse...

I know what you girls are talking about by seeing girls with classy makeup and some not so classy. I always wished that I had someone to teach me how to put on makeup the right way... but I learned over the years by trial and error lol

I wear make up everday usually unless i'm at home.

I think it's all a matter of KNOWING how to put it on. I'm no expert, and completely self taught as my mother doesn't wear make up at all but I think I do ok.

My little sis was a disaster when she first started wearing it. All weird colors and way to much eye shadow with NO mascara. lol. poor thing, i had to teach her.

thankfully she doesn't wear foundation, cuz i bet she would have been a pretty caked up 16 year old back then.

i only wear foundation on my chin cuz i have a scar and i'm totally insecure about it and i hate people asking questions.

i wish i knew how to properly apply eye make up.

There's a wicked sexist joke closely tied in with this thread:

Q Why do women wear makeup and perfume?
A Because they're ugly and they stink!

i think my biggest issues are the dark circles under my eyes and the fact that it looks like i have no eyelashes, and have very pale skin.. so when i go out on the weekend, i try to fix that up a little.. other then that..i hardly ever wear makeup..
it makes my face feel like it's suffocating.

and i love having the freedom to go to town rubbing my eyes whenever i want without worrying

but i would love to wear eyeshadow well, and maybe some ruby red lipstick on special special occasions, but i am never comfortable with it... i'm always afraid i'll get the lip-stick all over my teeth or something.

I used to wear makeup back in like grade 8-10.. heavy black around my eyes, sometimes black lipstick, and occasionally white on my face. Sometimes I would do a little blood red around the edges to make it look twisted.. it was all a part of my angry metalhead days. Now when I see a "goth" or whatever walking around, it reminds me of a really depressed and angry me. I grew out of it though.. I think it had something to do with starting to smoke grass. On a side note.. stay away from anti-depressants.. they do things to your head.

After applying your lipstick, close your lips and stick your index finger into your mouth, without opening your lips. You'll remove excess lipstick in the area that would stick to your teeth.

In fact, some Foundations have excellent qualities that should make some of us want to wear them. Including extra moisture, SPF to prevent sun damage, and anti-wrinkle treatments (to treat and prevent future wrinkles).

I wear a tonne of make-up, but I wear it in such a way that it is classy, and you wouldn't say I am hiding or trying to compensate. Make up is supposed to enhance what features you already have.

But there are girls that make me want to lick my thumb and rub their face with it. There is classy, and there is trashy.

There are only a few girls on here whose make up I think is disgusting. They could be very pretty, but how they wear it is intimidating.

[In Japan,] much in the traditional way of childrearing seems to foster passive dependence. The child is rarely left alone, day or night, for it usually sleeps with the mother.
When it goes out the child is not pushed ahead in a pram, to face the world alone, but is tightly bound to the mother's back in snug cocoon. When the mother bows, the child does too, so the social graces are acquired automatically while feeling the mother's heartbeat. Thus emotional security tends to depend almost entirely on the physical presence of the mother.
  • Children learn that a show of passive dependence is the best way to get favors as well as affection. There is a verb for this in Japanese: amaeru, translated in the diectionary as ''to presume upon another's love; to play the baby.'' According to the psychiatrist Doi Takeo this is the main key to understanding the Japanese personality. It goes on in adult life too: juniors do itto seniors in companies, or any other group, woman do it to men, men do it to their mothers and sometimes wives . . . .
  • A magazine called Young Lady featured an article (January 1982) on ''how to make ourselves beautiful.'' How in other words, to attract men. An American or European magazine would then go on to tell the reader how to be sexually desirable, no doubt suggesting various puffs, creams, and sprays. Not so with Young Lady. ''The most attractive woman,'' it informs us, ''are woman full of maternal love. Woman without maternal love are types men never want to marry. . . .One has to look at men through the eyes of a mother.''
--Ian Buruma
