The sun starting to come back up at 2am
It's no wonder why people go bush crazy. 7+ months of the year it's dark until 9am and 4pm and the rest of the time the sun never really sets. I'm loathing august when it'll be light out until midnight. I'm loathing even more the idea of snow in september and a 7month winter.
How can you win? |

Fort Mac is and places like this are desperate for people. Save on is hiring 12.50/start. I got offered a job busting tires, starting at 19$/hour and benefits.Mcdicks in Fort mac is hiring at $18. Two pipefitters I know, both late 20's, are clearing half a million in 6 months. Hardly anything is open on sundays because of staff shortages.
Hardly anyone is actually from these places. People come in for 5 years (or whatever), make hella cash and get the fuck out. Or get sucked in because of the money. Or get someone pregnant. Or get the clap. Any or all of the above actually. If you want to start a trades job and have no previous experience, places like this are the place to be. If you want to become an electrician, pipefitter, welder, whatever. You may as well come here. Or if you like dick, fuck there's a lot of guys in this town. It's a love/hate thing. Moving up here was one of the best things I've done with my life. I have a career, financial stability and goals in life. I just hate this town and the mentality that comes along with having too many testosterone secreting testis packed into a living environment where $$ talks too much. HAHAHA - The liking dick made me LOL.
My friend got a job driving the big trucks up the mines. I wouldn't mind just leaving here and going away. But I wouldn't be able to justify leaving the coast for a job that I get paid to do the same down here. What is the cost of living like in FSJ? I hear it is high in FMc. Also, I am curious, how old are you? |

Right now i'm paying $675/month for a mediocre but large (900sqft)two bedroom apartment dead center of town. It's a tad on the seventies side, but it's alright. You could rent a town house or house from $1000-2000/month. Real estate is booming right now, everything sells pretty quickly. Prices from around 100k - 350k for an alright house. If you're into outdoor activities there's just as much, if not more, then down on the coast. There's some gorgeous country up here, but it's comparing apples to oranges - 20 000 people compared to 2-3million. |

But he had over $25000 in debt that got paid off in just under 7 months. Which is enticing. I hear there aren't a lot of women doing the jobs up there. But then, a hardhat isn't always attractive on a woman. Peeing in a cup is kinda scary too. What is your main job up there? |

no sense comparing two evils. =) but you're right, winter up there is much more harsh. Our average is 30-40 below.. theirs is probably around 45-55 below isn't it? Still, 30 below is no trip to the beach. |

And I thought I lived far to the north. I have two extremes to deal with ...In the winter I don't see the sun , in the summer i don't see the moon.
I'd way rather be a daywalker though. Max , don't worry about the red neck . Embrace it. Buy a rifle , crack a pils and join the alberta seperatist party. |
