if you want to talk legends that have influenced punk for everyone and been enjoyed by multiple generations I'd go with Dead Kennedys

My personal favourites are Face To Face and Bad Religion. Can't say who's the best though because in the end it's all personal preferance.

as far as this questions gose.....it all ends with the clash.

when i first started listening to slayer back in the day i always considered them hardcore punk :) cause the first cd i bought was "divine intervention"

The Misfits are borderline grunge. The Offspring influenced nobody. GOB sold out. The Ramones were following in The Clash's footsteps, like all punk bands. And Lef Ova Crack wasn't that good.
