Apex Idol 2007
**** oops, my bad, I had to redo the poll cause I forgot a contestant, let the voting resume ****
Soooo, after much anticipation, here are you entrants for Apex Idol 2007. Voting will be open to avoid troll voting. The polls will be closed as of Thursday at 5pm. GOOD LUCK! ________________________________________ _________________________ Name: DJ JC Bio: I spent a good portion of yesterday watching The Surreal life marathon and getting drunk. Tammy Faye is cool. Reason for entering: I did this cause other people told me to. It's also my first step to becoming a superstar and leaving all my friends and loved ones behind. The Mix: Open Your Ears and Lower Your Expectations Tracklist: Andrew Lloyd Weber - Hosanna Brother Ali - Room With a View Neil Young - Heart of Gold Brother Ali - Forest Whitiker Coldcut - Colours the Soul Kanye West - Jesus Walks Fain Brooks - (Roll Along) Wagon Train The Crests with Johnny Mastro - Good Golly Miss Molly Led Zeppelin - Rock n' Roll The Big Bopper - Chantilly Lace Bloc Party - Helicopter The mix is full of trainwrecks and really sloppy because I learned how to turn on a turntable 6 weeks ago and I threw this together at the last minute (see getting drunk and watching The Surreal Life). Edit: Hosted with Rapidshare ________________________________________ ________________________ Name: Xirrus I go by the pseudo name of Xirrus. Born and raised in Montreal and now living in Vancouver I was introduced to the wonderful world of electronica at an early age. I've been producing IDM/Experimental electronica for 2 years and recently purchased turntables approx 6-8 months ago. I essentially love every form of electronica to which I find myself often picking up vinyl from any genre whether if its dubstep to electro. The mix I have attached is a dubstep mix. I did NOT practice this set (multiple times) before recording it as I believe that perfection does not always come within a short period time. But practice over a long period of time will achieve results. The reason why I choose to try out Apex Idol is not to gain "fame" or "recognition" but to provide myself with a small "challenge" as to the level of my dj'ing abilities at it is even though I have been practing off an on ever since I got the turntables. I honestly don't expect to win as the competition could be fierce, but I do expect critic's to help me provide feedback that I can use for future mixes. Cheers and vote with honesty! Track list: 1.Skream - I (Loefah Remix) 2.Protocol X - future world 3.Elemental - Bleep 4.Random Trio Productions - Haunted (Cyrus Remix) 5.Mathhead - Stagger Dub 6. Pinch - Punisher (Skream Remix) Download ________________________________________ ________________________ Name: Bhodiie Quote: My name is Bhodiie. Ive been spinnin records for 7 years on and off. I have spun in nightclubs and parties in South-East Asia and Europe. Here in BC Ive done mostly private and house parties. Currently getting into producing my own tracks. Apex was my first outdoor rave. I remember when it was by donation only. The set-up, the music and the atmosphere made me feel "at home". I think raves are meant to be outdoors. I think I should spin at Apex 2007 simply because I'm passionate about electronic music. Ive been sticking to my genre (Hard House, Hard Trance, Trance) since day one. Even though many strayed away from it in time, that never really phazed me. Thats my first love and im sticking with it to the end. I understand that as a DJ your catering to the crowd and what's "in" at the moment, and thats cool. I just cant force myself to spin anything I dont feel. I think spinnin at Apex will give me the kick in the arse that I need to step it up. My mix (with samples and scratch elements). www.sfu.ca/~amb4 (click on bhodiie.mp3) Please use in high volumes. Tracklisting: Dark by design - Dream within a dream. Clubburners - Plannet bass. Uberdruck - Bloody slut. Deep Forces - Harder. Signum - What ya got 4 me. *Mix is done on the fly and drunk. If I win everything will be finely tuned to perfection.* ________________________________________ _______________________ DJ Name: Phrenetic Tracklist: Mario Lopez - Sound Of Nature Blank & Jones - A Forest (Ron van den Beuken Remix) Rank 1 - Breathing Selu Vibra - Devine (Sean Tyas Rework) Push - Universal Nation 2003 Marco V vs. Jens - Loops and Things (Marco V mix) I have been a Bedroom DJ for a little over 3 years now and Ive been embracing all types of electronica for over 8 years with over 300 hours of Trance Radio Broadcasting under my belt. specializing in trance and hard dance i hope to make a name for myself in Vancouver, mabey Apex Project will be the beginning... here is the set ^right click and save as ________________________________________ _______________________ Name: neoh I'm in this for the music, for the moments I play I think of nothing, no stress, all of the worries in life are gone for the time I am playing, I am completely lost in it, and for that moment I am happy. The reason I chose to enter this contest, is because I know that I will get you off to a fresh start to the party with good feelings. Get ready to jump up, big tings agwan! Track list: 1. Um dude. The "Idol" part of this is in the vein of "American Idol" etc. where the masses are voting with their cellphones....American idol wouldn't be successful if the voting was private...

Really? *squints*.
What would she be in dog years.... edit: omg she gave me bad karma :( this will never work out. And to think, she might have been the reason to return to Abbotsford. That, and visit my parents. Last edited by wishbone; Mar 21, 07 at 12:49 PM. |

So I took a listen:
Neoh: What's Ace: Wee! Jungle bizness. Fun stuff, f'sure. I still say this is the best music to dance to. What's Bunk: Rather by-the-book material. Beyond the good rhythms, which jungle's filled with anyway, I wasn't terrible excited by what I was hearing. Phrenetic: What's Ace: ...err... Marco V's got some pumping rhythms... What's Bunk: Fuck. Vote for this guy if you like to stop dancing for extended lengths of time. Momentum-killing breakdown/build epic trance straight from the year 2001. Bhodiie: What's Ace: Hard dance can be dodgy, but this was actually rather fun. I could vibe to this for half an hour or so. What's Bunk: ...unless that second to last tracks was in there. Now THAT'S fucking dodgy hard dance. Monotonous bosh. Xirrus: What's Ace: Sweetness. Dubstep's gaining lots of of underground cred lately, and this collection of tunes easily does it justice. What's Bunk: Seriously, this stuff's too good for Apex. Don't waste it on a glorified suburban gong show; the folks there won't understand it one bit. Tighten up that mixing a bit and try for some grimey undergrounds or maybe even Shambhala! DJ JC: What's Ace: What the...? Holy SHIT!! Neil Young!??? Automatic win! What's Bunk: Who cares! This mutherfucker's got NEIL YOUNG in it!!! It already outclasses all but Xirrus' set, who was disqualified for having such 1337 taste in music anyway (not a bad thing where Apex is concerned, mind). |

I was torn between Xirrus, Neoh, and DJ JC as well. On one hand, I'd have KILLED to hear dubstep at a party like Apex but on the other, the track selection didn't really peak my interest.
DJ JC, I'm sorry I let you down. You were so my pick until I got the obligatory "Hey man, vote for me" pm from a friend. I never should have let my sense of humour lose. Neoh. Bastard! You're lucky you spin dnb otherwise you'd be one vote closer to losing the JC himself! :) Last edited by tiedye; Mar 21, 07 at 03:04 PM. |
