WTF ever happened to......

WTF ever happened to......

the chunky ass melodie bassline Tech house that we had in vancouver so many years ago, that killer Dj's like Tyler Stadius, DJ Ali, Tom Thomas, Andy clockwork, Jay tripwire, Alison Barth, k-dub, Jamie kidd, and so on used to play oh so well, I miss it so much!!!! and its impossible to find on vinyl or mp3 anymore. grrrrrrr

what people consiter tech house now a days is for from it. and im pissed of that they classify tech house with minimal on juno and other sites, now I have to look threw a bunch of crap for ever to find somthing i like, and most of it i seem to find in the prog haus section...fuck you!

just needed to vent a little

btw does any one have any old sets to share or trade? I have a few....
or do you know where i can find the brilliant tech house I used to hear back in the day? please help me

^ Pretty much it.

Frankly I got bored of that stuff pretty quickly like 4 or 5 years ago. How people could conceive of 4-hour kevin shiu sets is still beyond me.

whatever happened to the vancouver late night tech/funky house scene? does it still exist? it was so weird and cool back in the late nineties and early noughties. I've still got this cheap little flyer for that beatty street afterhours ( 858 ) where jereme oliver used to play. It says "You're invited! 2AM - LATE" on one side and then there's a little piece of wavy text saying "support gay art!" I love it. what about that place under the art gallery in yaletown? where they'd usher you in real quick so as not to draw attention. or that creepy afterhours under celebrities. weirdo haunts on hastings. crack houses on pender. god, the tech house was wild at those places.

In a sense tech is huge right now. Especially in Europe apparently, however I think its drastically molded or paired up with other genres to get it to where it is now, probably why you dont hear the tech you want to. Like you said tech is very often mixed up with minimal. Im also hearing a lot of tech mixed with electro and progressive. Techno on its own is very underground and has its own scene. It doesnt work well in "mainstream" electronica clubs or partys. But than thats kind of where Vancouver's scene is at.

If your looking for any other djs who play techno, check out miss myte and nigel ray. They LOVE tecno. Long walk short doc may be an other too? Also keep an eye out for LLW, often the lick room has a lot of tech house.

Depending who's playing at Signal you'll get a fair amount of it there too.

Long Walk Short Dock have thrown out some decent performances this past year.

It's a shame that it's always in the "Awkward" room, but from what I hear some major reno's are going down.

longwalkshortdock is incredible, but not really purely techno or tech house. More dancerockgeekcoretechno or something like that. And he does live PA not djing. But he's probably one of the best live pa shows vancouver has to offer today. I was kinda sad to not see him on the Sequential Circus 2 bill.

As for Lick at LLW, it's always the room the crazies end up in. I like it. Since they moved the DJ booth into the corner the dance space has opened up decently.

Speaking of amazing live pa, I've heard nothing but stellar reviews of Tyler Lewis' new live project "Feathers of Lead".

thanks Rhia.......

but I no longer go to clubs, or partys anymore, as much as I love dancing, DJing, and the Music, I just dont support that seen anymore. I no longer drink, or do any drugs...and it seem most people(not all dont get me wrong) go just to get fucked up and wasted...I was guilty of that as well, but im not that person anymore.....

Im more upset about shoping for records and mp3, I find that most the "tech house" now a days is either really minimal or glitchy micro house. I just cant seem to find anything like it used to be, that grimey, chunky, melody basslines, with hints of acid and cool techy/tribal sounds.
but thats life. music and peoples tastes will always change.

Im inspiered to record a mix and put it on here, im also inspired to start producing that killer sound I love so much

comming soon....
