Learning to Set Up Turntables

I’m pleased to announce that I’m starting to release parts of a “Learn 2 DJ” series. This series will consist of approximately 20 separate modules, all relating to the fundamentals of playing music for people, information about the equipment used, or information about programming music successfully. One new module will become available every two to four weeks over the next eight months.

The first module is entitled, “Setting Up Your Turntables.” It describes the Technics 1200 series decks and how they work, but the information can be applied to other types of turntables as well. You can view this page at:

That link will take you to a text and photo-based site, and you will also have the option to download a 45 minute .AVI video to enhance the learning experience (or watch it on YouTube). You can certainly learn a lot without the video, but the video would provide additional information.

nice tutorial, very comprehensive. hopefully stuff like this will get some of the young'uns interested in DJing with turntables... with the amount of cheaper/easier alternatives out there these days i sometimes fear that decks are on the road to extinction.

you forgot to ground your decks, dude.

Failed indeed, won't deny. Don't have to ground CDJ's, thank god. I hated the stupid ground issue with torq.
