each to their own i guess, i've always been able to appreciate the dumbed down abnoxious varieties of darker/harder genres ( in small doses anyways)...just like Jump-Up and Florida breaks a few years back.

Like a few people said. Nu Disco (space disco, edits, baleric)...not to be confused with the Indie Dance stuff (beatport clumps them together, and i find a lot of people are confused about it.). the "DFA" sound is definitely paving the way...along with "I'm a Cliche"

Then there's some UK Funky, again like someone mentioned a bit of 90's house revival..a lot of rhythm tracks. Stuff from guys like Julio Bashmore.

haha jump-up, besides all the reggae influence, was like what electro is now. Cheezy with lots of top40 remixes. I wouldn't call it hard or dark. Like anything music just goes in a cycle from this to a more serious alternative. People got sick of the clownstep and moved onto to more danceable liquid dnb or the darker scare your grandma stuff.

Oh yeah, and all the DnB I've been enjoying lately has been the Liquid Funk stuff I keep hearing from the Shah DJs. Nice to hear some refreshing new DnB.

yeah i agree with you completely. i think you misunderstood what i meant tho. I wasn't trying to say Jump Up was dark, only that it was a light/dumbed down sub-genre of a darker genre like D+B, much like Florida Breaks is to Breakbeat and the Club-Step stuff is to Dub.

another one would be this slow kinda return to downtempo/idm realms while keeping references and frameworks of dubstep and 2-step. artists like - mount kimbie, clubroot, blue daisy, james blake, millie & andrea..
