I only want the features most cdjs have on them...cue, pitch, and maybe some flangey or wah or delay effects...Which pleases my listening and dancing ears when used at the right time......
Mind you FULL control of all mediums is kinda cool too..IF you want to stay REALLY BUSY on stage...... YouTube - DJmag Review - Pioneer SVM-1000 AV Mixer Video of the crowd on camera mixed with other cool .jpegs! ALL to the beat!... and the effects of the video mixing can be set to the beat too...SICK! Last edited by suplex; Jun 05, 08 at 11:39 AM. |

Independent Music is getting better (to my ears anyways) because of new tools and more people using and playing with that shitload of tools. ..... I fully disagree....This tool allows MORE creativity to be unleashed, and also brings us closer to leaving the industrial age behind (LESS STUFF=MORE SPACE) and putting the information age ahead. You may not like the creativity being expressed with these tools by some people, but the more people share info/knowledge and tools and creativity...the better it/we will be.

I agree with you in part. Some of the tools are great and allow people to easily produce and spread music. Some however are redundant at best, distracting at worst.
Music doesn't need to be complicated to be good. It doesn't have to be over produced to be skilled. The best music I've heard have often come from a guy with a voice and guitar or two people playing violin. Limiting yourself cuts distractions. I found myself often just tinkering rather then practicing with my old studio. When I got rid of most of the gear, I found I practiced scales and exercises more. |

I remember on another forum when we were talking about the Hardfloor show back in November... someone posted a comment after seeing a video of one of their performances and made a comment along the lines of "I don't see what's so special. All I see is them adding in a hi-hat and then everybody screaming."
My response was something like: What are you talking about? If you can make a crowd go nuts JUST by adding a hi-hat, that means you have SKILL. |

K.I.S.S. is good for some, others need to explore lots of different paths ...The Pioneer mixer would allow me to express my graphic/video side and my audio side. I took Media Resources at Capilano and really enjoy BOTH. I think it would be a GREAT tool....
I have a few new tools i am exploring/learning that i would like people to try too.. ...I like the Predator synth vst.....I just got it...Haven't tried to write a track with it yet...Just playing around./ I would also like to thank Jay Wikid for introducing me to waveshell diamond vst0still new to me) and mastering in cubase a little while ago.... I tried to use his technique for the remix i did of Sturdy's track "Epic Burns".. You can heat it on my myspace page. MySpace.com - Alex Suplex - Nelson, CA - Electro / Breakbeat / House - www.myspace.com/alexsuplex Oh and speaking of bad production technique---the brit vs bloodhound track on my myspace page ..I noticed they went well together and just did a quick 2 hr mashup edit on it for a friend of mine....No time spent and no real love or appreciation for the music made on that one. |

I'm not even saying Keep It Simple... I'm just saying constrain yourself. You can be complex while limiting yourself. How you do that though is where the creativity lies.
Adding more features, effects, layers, etc. does not necessarily make it more complex. Again, art is not the sum of its parts. |

Spend an evening at the Yale, and you'll see this. Great music can be made by a couple guitars, a drummer and a piano. Or it can be made by a million dollar studio. But that same million dollar studio can also produce a Fergie Cd. So don't buy the hype of virtual tools. Nothing can beat thinking about something and hearing it translated by holding down a few strings. |

Probably my #1 complaint about Deadmau5 is that he seems like he has all the tools he needs and no clue how to use them properly. He's pretty much everything I hate about the universal availability of studio tools that came from the digital revolution.
As a result his music strikes me as boring and uninspired. That's a personal taste thing because I know a lot of people swear up and down on him as much as they do Tiesto (who, honestly, I have the same complaint about). It has all the tricks & all the parts of EDM, but just lacks any kind of creativity behind it... something that sets him apart from the formula. |

One of the gayest vocals (but catchy) and the build up of an intense 303.

1. So glad were talking tunes again
2. Ebbomega that tune you posted is fuckin' amazing. Not my style at all. But fuckin' amazing. 3. Supplex, Predator is off the hook. Best pre-sets I've heard yet and I really hate pre-sets. 4. Less is more. I find that when something just ain't right about a tune I'm workin' on taking something out usually works the best. Creating space on a drop gives your bass some room. |

I liked that youtube track too....reminded me of what gemma luna does around here (sp?)...Definitely not my style- but cool track.....I was really blown away by Herbert doing live PA like that, at Sonar.... also Infected Mushroom with their new band is amazingly good.

LWSD is an exception to this. he's kind of a maximalist as far as gear is concerned. |
