^haha...NO.
I really couldn't give a shit if someone picked me or not...i'm over caring if i'm 'popular'....especially in Vancouver. I just think posts like this one are a bit of an ego-massage. Apart from Wood i haven't seen a jungle/dnb dj named here who's actually doing something decent. |

Precise, CAK, Soma and Hirshee is really fun although not my fave type of music
I saw Soda briefly at shambala, I didn't know it was him at the time, but he was awesome! For techno/trance - Mr.Sinister & Deeb There's so many I still need to see! |

You'll note that just about everyone who's put down on here as someone's "fav" is a up and coming lil local that's just been playing out a lot. Lookit Ryan Ross... I consider Ryan a friend and yes I think he's an incredibly talented DJ but in some respects I just see people putting his name down like everyone put down Lenny Ford's name a few months ago... because he's playing out a lot... not just because of skills (which both of them have). As for Rohan actually doing something... he is... more than a lot of other people as far as I can see. I'm not about to go off spouting what exactly it all is... I'll leave that to him should he so chose to tell you. What about DJs like Psidream?? Known overseas and signed to some crazy labels not to mention a killer DJ/producer... does he get any mentions... no. Why's that? Cuz no one ever books the guy for some unknown reason. These threads are the equivalent to "who do you wanna hump" in the sex section. It's a total popularity contest featuring few people who actually (as far as I know) do more than play someone elses music. Of the people I know actually DOING something with this shit (and I'm saying that I know of... I've been outta the loop for a while so maybe I don't know shit these days) I'm gonna say there's Rohan, Jeff (Psidream), Ryan Ross and Oliver Nickles. |

Alright... lots of opinions flying around in this thread... here's mine.
Cerah - I totally agree with everyting you've said. I have MAD respect for Rohan and Psidream and have booked them both in past. We have to remember the topic of the thread though - "Favorite Local DJ right now." It isn't saying who is the best DJ in town, who is the best producer or most influential, it asked the question of in all of our individual opinions, who is your favorite DJ/Producer at this point in time. Personally - I have respect for anyone that is producing today - Rohan, Psidream, Cinto, Christian Alvarez, Dave Armstrong, Czech, I think Wood and Dabbler are starting to produce now as is Hirshee and Jeff Daniel. The bottom line is, anyone who doesn't produce, is just playing other peoples records... that isn't necessarily a bad thing though because you have people like Precise and Czech that consistently introduce us to what other world class producers are putting out before anyone else does! Peace. |

The problem with a lot of dnb DJs in this city is many of them have the exact same records. I remember going out years ago and hearing Space Invaders 2, 3 times in one night. This doesn't mean that this city has a real lack of good dnb djs, they're all good, but it is really innovation that sticks out to me. Mechwarrior for example has a really decent collection of records that not too many others in this city can match. Along the same lines, Psidream is also one of my favorites because he's doing some great things production wise and he's gaining quite the worldwide reputation, it's just a shame Vancouver hasn't quite caught onto that. Other local heros: link (rocking the girlie dnb styles), vynil ritchie, kutkorners, wilson hart, wood, 4eyes...and even though he doesn't live in Vancouver DJ PANTS!!!!!!!!!!!! |

I wouldn't take it to heart though, because this is just a popularity poll taken from a very small sample size. Note that the topic is "who is your favourite", not "who is the best". If the latter were the case then I'd have a hard time restraining myself from seriously flaming people =P Last edited by Sean; Oct 04, 03 at 12:45 AM. |

i do agree with the popularity contest idea, it is definately true, it just sucks that u need to be all over fnk to get any votes, as far as my opinion goes heres what i think
vinnie the squid (by far the most underated dj in vancouver, if youve ever seen this guy u know what im talkin about, he also produces and has started a record label called slow djs, the first record is already on promo and has been picked up by about 10 different distribution companys in north america and europe) Jay tripwire everyone already knows abotu jays success and it shows , remixing and collaborating with some of the best in the world, even this week having a remix on a breaks record by jono fernanadez which is huge, and not to mention his djing abilities are wickid too and last but not least TYhc, great dj, great mixing capabilities great taste in music plays breaks house downtempo, i alwsya enjoy his mixes and he also produces some pretty good breaks, on top of these djs/producers there are still tons of good djs such as mateo, princess i mean precise, double down (kerry wilks) ps theres also oliver whos producing is nuts , he has got some skills |

I made this post not as a popularity contest but as research to who the Fnk community was enjoying as locals right now
becasue I was look into future bookings. Now I see there is many DJ's who I never thought of booking who are hot right now. My opion of my fav local changes about every couple of months. I find it rude that Mechwarrior would come on here and call other DJ's listed "wankfest". Jealously is the how I see it. Ryan Ross is popular and my fav becasue he puts HUGE amount of love into his music and brings a different element to his sets. Much the same as Akeel. I feel this is why these two names are popping up consistantly. Yes some DJ's names might not be mentioned but just becasue you do not agree do not trash the DJ's that are. There Favs for a reason. Instead of hating learn to the reasons why they are. Last edited by middle mike; Oct 04, 03 at 02:36 AM. |

? All of the afforementioned local producers are also djs that happen to play out their own tracks, as well as tracks that are of a similar callibre to the material that they produce, so I don't see why it's not relevant to the topic. |
