In keeping with the topic of this thread, I say the old guy at the local pub who plays everything from 50's classic rock to 80's new wave rock. I hear electronic music everywhere else. Nice to hear someting differeent when chillin' with the boyz with a pint or two.

Ok this is getting stupid. Mike made this post to see what djs people liked right now (or who is "popular" righ now) Isnt it pretty damn obvious that djs who play more at the parties that the fnk crowd go to will have a higher chance of being on someones list?

I dont claim that Im best dj in the city, and neither would anyone who put me on their list. And im pretty sure non of the other "lil newbie djs" would say they are the best either. But i guess we are doing something that peope enjoy enough to leave a decent impression. So go ahead and cut us down and say that the only reason we get picked is because we suck dick to get time slots and and that these lists are nothing more then a "wankfest".

I dont need to be wanked by anyone, nor do i feel the need to wank anyone else. I do what i do because i love it. People choose their djs based on who they like right now, you havent been playing to them "right now" you won't get picked. I wouldnt get all snappy if i hadnt been seen recently by this small sample of the vancouver night life that fnk is and made it onto their lists. Get over it.

So any of you new'er dj's dont get jelouse cus these guys have always been my favs before you where ever dj's or ravers :P

Ack, sorry it came out that way dude; I definitely was not taking a crack at any of the DJs here (more promoters, of which I'm as guilty as many). As you put it, all of you are mentioned because you're doing something that at least a few people enjoy, and that's what it's all about. I was just agreeing with whoever mentioned that a guy like Psidream would never be mentioned here because he doesn't play raves (or more specifically massives).

Like most things, DJ'ing in this city is about who you know more so than how skilled you are. I bet there are bedroom DJs that have never played a gig in their life that are way better than most of us will ever be, but since they don't know or make an effort to know people they'll never go anywhere. Either you get to know the right people or you become one of the people to know (usually by originally getting involved with the right people =P)

I think production is a popular route for a lot of DJs in this city for my aforementioned reasons; it's not really possible to get big here without knowing the right people (or having a lot of cash). Production gives you international credibility, and once you've been doing it for a while and consistently producing good tunes others start to notice. It's just a shame that so few people from within our own city notice that.

My favorites lately from what I have seen and heard which has n't been alot lately but here goes.

My list is as follows: Global, Hirshee, Mechwarrior and Psidream together, ryan ross, astroglide, precise is dope always.

Thats it for now, i'm sure someone has the same list as me haha
