Well, you definately have to go out and buy your own shit first!

I was self-taught. Started buying records and just got a few pointers here and there from just talking to people. None of my friends spun. So it was difficult for me to figure some things out.

People today are now coming to me asking if I can teach them, and not to be a bastard, but I tell everyone that I won't teach anyone unless they've got their own tables. Even if they say they're "going to buy them soon". Then I'll make em wait till they get them.

DJing is something you need to practice everyday and need a complete passion for it. It's not something that can be done half-assed... although there are some DJ's out there who think they can.

i learned using old sony tables with rubber slipmats and rotary pitch adjustment....and no mixer

lex + kev (form+kaos) helped alot in giving me the headstart on the technicalities, finally bought my own gear and practiced like a mofo.....

I'm learning to right now and i found the best way is to just go ahead and do it. it gets to complicated when someone else is trying to explain how to do it, it's easier just to try it and experiment a little. watching other people and listening helps too.

first off all you don't know anything about trance

sure there are idiots that spin trance who jump around like idiots and over use effects/eq etc, but to generalize like that is pathetic.

there are shit dj's in every genre...unfortunately its a plague that threatens all of us.

but speaking of fx, i also like to use the flanger all the time and have it cranked with a 1/1 to beat ratio...since i have no idea what any other fx or settings are.

wanna learn how to dj? first try it out urself... and ur gonna suck no matter what. just remember how much u suck ok?

then go download some lives sets by guys like john digweed (the master), armin, etc. (i would have said paul oakenfold before, but fuck that monkey!) listen to their sets. they are doing exactly what u are trying to do right now, which is mix, except they are 1000 times better than u! haha

now u can compare how their mixes are 1000 times better than yours! now figure out how u can make ur mixes sound like theirs... now u can become the next armin van buuren! woohoo!
