I can list 3 styles of bass off the top of my head right now... all used in speedgarage... most of them used creatively (not all, though... there's cheesy formulaic shit in every genre)
Reece Bass: the most commonly heard bass in speedgarage, drum n bass and nu skool breaks... it's basically 2 square waves detuned so that one is +25 cents and the other is -25 cents... those values are obviously just rough figures, as it can be anywhere around there... then the filter is set to a lowpass and the cutoff is adjusted until it's more rumble than buzz
Sub Bass: basically it sounds like a kick drum on steroids... we've all heard tunes based around distorted sub kicks and clean sub kicks... it's most commonly made with 2 sine waves that start at a high pitch and then drop to a low pitch, creating a sort of 'bwong' sound effect
Warp Bass: basically it's a Reece bass that has a filter envelope on it, which means it starts out being only sub bass and then the filter cutoff slopes upward until it's sub bass and mid range bass at the same time, creating a boo-womp kind of sound
anybody who says all the basslines in speedgarage are the same needs to do a little bit of music production research, then take a closer listen to not just the classic speedgarage tracks, but some of the more innovative ones coming out in recent days... check out anything on Gridlock'd Records, pretty much... but watch out for organ basslines... god... worst thing I've ever heard in any genre of music... sounds like Love Inc without the talent!
