all speed garage tracks ARE very similar you are right! the fucking genre was made based on a fucking bassline! that stupid wompy retarded bassline! hip hop is very similar? bullshit. hip hop is superior even over drum and bass. there is such a diverse culture based upon hip hop as a result of such a successfully evolved genre that started from the ghetto projects. there is such a broad range of beats, vibes, lyrics and vocals.....it's a fallacy to say all hip hop sounds similar now. |

ok, all music-taste debates aside, is there even still DJs playing 'speed garage'? As far as i knew it was totally a thing of the past. The scene that it came from has long since moved on to other sounds, and even the hard-house DJs who picked up on the big-bassline sound after SG died seem to be over it by now. If there even are new tracks being produced, they're certainly not being publicized....
i'm not a huge fan, but i've always found it strange how the genre was born & died in London just as the rest of the world caught on to what could have potentially been a way bigger thing... and nobody ever really capatalized on the huge demand there seems to be for speed garage in north america. I guess when it became all the rage with the ravers, it was disowned by the inner-city baller crowd that invented it. they moved on to 2 step, and speed garage left London to live on as a cult phenomenon in NA....? |

hip hop is very simillar, especially vancouver hip hop, there is some looped beat that goes no where, a guy talking about stuff thats important to him,, weather that be crap like cars cash bitches etc. or weather it be something political and intelegent, it is still just a looped beat and a guy rhyming over it. jungle is all very simillay, its not just the speed that defines it. ragga jungle close basslines to speed garage with a uk mc mimicking a jamaican with rolling drum lines, tech-step fast broken drum lines with low destorted bass... the root is the same or it wouldnt be what its called... what do they call punk, punk? same reasson, all punk is simmilar because if it wasnt it would be country, or rock, but its not... its punk, see how that works... and yeah wood... there are people that still play speed garage!!! like me! there are a few other here too, its probably the most needed style for you record shop guys to get a little bit of |

it created a stir because it's a genre of music that is either passionately followed or passionately hated... pretty much like trance... some people think it's cool to hate it, some people think it's cool to love it, some people don't give a shit either way
you gotta give it credit for being a genre of music that can get people so worked up about it personally I think all the people who are hating on it need to step off, go listen to what you like, leave the people who like it alone... you're only making yourselves look bad by getting all worked up about how much you hate a genre of music... you don't like it? don't listen to it... it's a pretty simple concept, right? |

pretty much applies to all music too. there will always be haters so if you dont shrug them off you'll constantly be getting into flames like this one. |

It's funny how people HATE on the music they know nothing about. Let me prove my point... Do you haters know ANY history on speed garage? How it started, etc. Do you know ANY speed garage titles that AREN'T from '98? Do you know ANY new producers or labels? ANY new sets? ANY new information.... Do you know ANY of the TOP producers that produced speed garage under a different name? Little do you know... you're favorite producer could have produced speed garage in his/her career. If you are quite educated with this, then your opinion has some value. |

And... like Major Josh was saying... all genres sound the same if you don't listen to them. Do you listen to country music? If no, it all sounds the same, right? The more you know about it, the more the differences stick out.
Props to Major Josh & Thanatos who actually know more than what it sounds like. Props for Baby Traits & Bobby T for stickin' up. |

wow. you're a smooth one.
anyways i'm done with this. you're definetly right though. i mean your theory suggests that my taste is exquisite due to my more "upper class" upbringing and the reason you're into speed garage is because you belong to this "other demographic." way to dig yourself a hole you fuckin dunce. anyways sorry for this minor disturbance in the thread my time on this board is done. |
