Chris- You are taking everything I am saying the wrong way...I was giving you examples that sexism is present in many other places other than the "rave scene." That this is something that women deal with beyond dj'ing. It was a simple example to give your head a shake. I will never make an excuse to not dj, as I love it, and would never give it up for some guy! I have made it this far, and I'm not going to stop.
Secondly, why are you bringing up Wicked House Party so much? Is there a problem with that??? I seriously don't see anything wrong with their events or any of the members for that matter. You make it seem like that is as far as I am getting...but it isn't. Like I said, I've made it this far and I'm not stopping. If you have noted I don't permanently live in Vancouver now, I am playing in clubs on the island too. Also, it shouldn't matter that I'm an underage dj....personally power to me getting started this early. Just means I'll be that much better at a younger age...in years to come. I don't see age as an advantage or disadvantage. I have never been laughed out of a record store for any reason. I have been given funny looks whilst looking for new records, but when bringing them to the counter to buy them, they soon ease up. But this is something many girls face, because honestly, how many times do you see girls in the record store buying records?? Sexism is NOT holding me back! I have said this to you time and again. If it WAS holding me back I wouldn't be dj'ing now! But I'm stating for other girls who are starting to not be intimidated by it! That you do get through it. Wellbelove#1- I totally know where you are coming from!!! I totally know what you mean with guys giving you funny looks when you were starting out! I've been dealing with it for quite a while now too and I'm finally getting the respect I deserve. Finally allowed to tag with guy friends at house parties and at clubs. But look how long it took to get there. I'm glad to see that someone else agrees with me on this subject. Unfortunately most guys can't understand this, because they don't deal with this. It's invisible to the eye....but not to the heart...if you get what I mean. Many a times, my confidence has been blown, but I got right back on it because there's no reason for anyone to hold me back. Buying records was one of the weirdest experiences to have. Receiving weird looks left, right and center is not enjoyable if you ask me. However, when you show up at the counter with some new tracks, the guy working there realizes you aren't shitting. All I can say, is keep up the good influence to girls out there....because there's little out there for us to look up to. Very few girls that is! :) |

female dj's turn me on
I mainly play progressive house and prog trance.....but recently i find myself picking records from the breaks section......i luv anything deep and funky.....and i really try not to limit myself to one distinct style or sound as i think versatility is key to any succesful dj........its funny, most of my main influences are close friends, such as form and kaos, but i owe my zest for mixing to pete aka SEROTONIN, we bought tables together like way back and just started throwin down, fuckin guy taught me alot...wrd :Keebler: my other outside influences would have to be Sasha, John Digweed, czech , Scott Bond , Mobey, Paul Okenfold, John OO , DJ Flave, and so on..................

Since there are so many people who spin here. I think we should have a forum just for DJ's so they can trade, search and buy vinyl. Whatcha think? I have this vinyl, from Sakura
Side A - Sakura / Sukura Beats Side B - Tribal Bu-Shi / Samurai Soul Boys Intro I dont know why I bought this. Its not break, not exactly sure what type of music it is. If anyone wants it. I'll trade for any breaks. Ha Ha Ha! Get back to me for the forum for trading vinyl. |

Karma for chris from this thread: quote: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ur ugly and u cant spin for shit, trust me, i've heard u..... Your mixes absolutely suck! and you should learn how to Properly use EQ w/ out distorting the sound of the music -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If your refering to last night (which you probably are, since I never fuck with the eq's...) then try seeing me spin on more then 3 watt speakers. But you see... your taking me too seriously, I'm a horrible dj! I don't care though, cause I have fun! " Well chris if you think it was me who wrote that i never got a chance to see you spin at christines (if thats waht your thinking) Anyways to be honest i think i should let you know i have great respect of what you do. I think it msut be relay hard to be a hhc DJ, ppl dont give it a chance, and you stick it out and keep with it. Not only that, but you put a lot of heart into it. Yes ppl can say you suck if you cant beat mach, but what more to ask if your just starting out? You still put on a great show and have a lot of potenchal in vancouver and know what hhc is all about. Your the only one representing the hhc scene here in van or maybe in BC. Your just starting out but im one of those that can see you take off. I dont dis you and never will. Yes i admit to teasing about hhc, but realy i think jungle and hhc are too simular, and no not all junglist hate hhc or nija boy. Only ppl who cant think for them selfs hate ninja boy. What is it going to take?
Has everybody put in their two bits! I think that someone should start a thread entitled: "I'm a female dj and this is what I feel about being a female dj and I think that........" Actually, I'm going to start it for you all because it seams there is alot that you all need to get off your shoulders!
