Got around to listening to Bloc Party.. it's energetic and such but I don't see the craft and uniqueness that made some of my other bands such an obsession. Every song is jangly guitars, scorching drum beats and passionately yelped vocals. That's a good thing in some ways but the M.O. gets repetitive.
Some of it's growing on me though, my review may get revised. Btw, a name that hasn't been dropped yet (I don't think) is the New Pornographers. Their buzz time predates a lot of these other entries, but my obsession with them was right up there.. all they did was released two of the best power pop albums in Canadian music history..... |

EDIT: Fuck! My post doesn't count, someone already mentioned them.
Still good though. http://www.thegoteam.co.uk/ Now I have to go and find some other band to suggest... Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. Last edited by Max Lazarus; Apr 13, 05 at 11:45 PM. |

Listened to Bloc Party a few more times.. it's a good album for what it is, some songs jump out but one the whole their sound still seems a bit one dimensional for me. But enough damning them with faint praise.
Picked up Arcade Fire _Funeral_... definetely NOT one-note sound.. feel like if I sit with this at the right time and play it start to finish it might stick. A real "Album" album. Obsessing over Keane's single "Everybody's Changing" right now. Might have to use the power of the internet to get the 2004 release _Hopes & Fears_ that spawned it. As of this moment, have still not taken Cdn Brdr up on his 8 buck challenge. |

^Hell, take it off of the ftp if anything.... I've been grooving this album for two weeks straight now.
I've been loving The Bravery as well. I'd definitely recommend checking out Keane's 'Hopes and Fears' Dave.... it's an amazing album. |

I'm sure all of you already know that Bloc Party is playing the Commodore Ballroom on May 29th w/ Kiss Me Deadly and She Wants Revenge right?
I'm sure you also knew that tickets were the glorious price of $19.00 +s/c. Of course I totally wasted my time typing this here becasue you all knew this already, right? |
