impure is a jewel in the roughimpure is a jewel in the roughimpure is a jewel in the roughimpure is a jewel in the rough
influence or no?

i was just thinking about dave grohl.
what new music HASN'T he touched?
hell, he even had a hand in the new NIN album!
now, it occured to me while i was thinking about all this that while sometimes he has a distinct influence on the music he works on, sometimes, like with NIN he dosn't.
while on the other hand someone like my idol maynard james keenan has a very distinct influence on anything he touches.
simply put, dave grohl can produce a track and you probably wouldn't be able to pick that out by just listening to it but someone like maynard james keenan stamps his music such to the extent that you know within the first few bars.

Maynard's influence is generally lyrics and vocals, where Dave Grohl is a little bit more diverse (drums, guitar, vocals, etc). Maynard has a very distinct style that stands out and is easily recognizable. There's something to say for both. Sometimes you want that person to stand out (attracts their fans), and sometimes you just want good music without someone stealing the spotlight.

i guess maynard has a discinct style each time, dave, not so much.
sure, you can hear that the new nin is more pop, but i can't say for certain that it's dave who made it so.
if maynard had been a part of the new nin then you would know....

but im not just talking about these two guys, i mean in general.
any other examples out there?
