while on the other hand someone like my idol maynard james keenan has a very distinct influence on anything he touches.
simply put, dave grohl can produce a track and you probably wouldn't be able to pick that out by just listening to it but someone like maynard james keenan stamps his music such to the extent that you know within the first few bars.

Maynard's influence is generally lyrics and vocals, where Dave Grohl is a little bit more diverse (drums, guitar, vocals, etc). Maynard has a very distinct style that stands out and is easily recognizable. There's something to say for both. Sometimes you want that person to stand out (attracts their fans), and sometimes you just want good music without someone stealing the spotlight.
