mat the alien
vinyl richie angst manos-one dabbler pacific czech cinto there's a lot of dj's that are good at spinning...........and i enjoy watching them but i feel these locals go above and beyond with either playing their own music or using their turntable skills for something other than just mixing |

kuma + eve(ur local in my books): for the subtle brilliance
matty: because i was first impressed by your stylings so long ago, i dont think you even rocked a beard! and for evolving into one of the best artist names ive ever heard::pacific psidream: for being the one of an elite few to puts the sounds of van on the global map all under what is simply the best moniker....for a goa trance dj! mechwarrior/c_squared: for talent, and creativity that i wish i was able to listen to more often wood/dabbler/soo/angst/soda/farts de la shat: for being the unusual suspects, carrying the assualt high and low noradawn/illesha(regardless of our political angst): for being both beautiful and MULTItalented and lest we forget the one who dreamed up the brilliant idea of throwing a dnb night in cracktown in what was a lesbian bar caterying to ladies that could tear off a mans balls with a single look! this post makes realize how few of vancouvers dj's I've seen spin...
must get out more. anyway... psidream - plain and simple, plays dnb i like akeel - someone who always puts a little more into a dj set (scratchin, drum kit, samplers, etc) wood - great selection of tunes spence - tight mixing, great programming, dope scratching, wicked on the sax, up and coming producer.. the list goes on.. g-rock - very few get the energy levels up like greg rock. one of my favorite party rockers. kevin shui - not always my first choice in music but I've caught this guy play a near flawless set on more than one occasion angst - ragga muthafuckin jungle at its finest soma - boy knows his shit. extremely versatile dj who does what he does well. mat the alien - for makin it look easy! oj - throws down b-boy stylee from either side of the decks! |

omg =) thanks to everyone who was so wonderful even though i haven't really been showing my face as much as hiding it in the studio these days..
<3 <3 <3 <3 thanks for making me smile in this SHIT OFFICE SPACE AFTERNOON i'm having. locals, you know i love you all but i'm just thinking of the ones that not only rock the decks but INSPIRE me as well dj noah.. didn't anyone listen to homebass? i rocked that shit on my radio. i remember the first time i accidentally tuned in and went holy shit this is awesome! soo... i watched this guy bust his nuts both as a dj and a promoter and somehow still ending up as one of my best friends and one of the nicest people i've ever known. oh did i mention that he's got the rinsin' sound... wood.. i have learned so many indirect lessons from playing with this guy, singing with this guy, listening to this guy, hanging out with this guy, buying records from this guy. i <3 this guy! and his tunes rock. slim/spence .. the very first mixtape i got was "hotshit". i know some of you don't know it but i was a diehard breaks fan before anything. nudlz .. i'm surprised nobody mentioned him. this guy both on the mics and the decks has so much fucking incredible talent! i guess he runs in different circles.. matty/pacific .. another "from the beginning" inspiration for me... i learned a lot about how to conduct oneself gracefully in the dj scene (this doesn't count matty when he's hammered! haha) .. and his tunes are KILLING IT everywhere i play them. mat the alien.. again, multitalented as hell and still a nice guy. ever notice that the biggest assholes in music are the most mediocre djs.. and all the nice, non-egotistical guys like mat are the most talented ones? abasi.. soooo much amazing energy, and talent, and variety, and insanity. rennie "dubnut" foster.. okay, maybe he's from victoria, and maybe he lives in japan right now, but undoubtedly a huge influence on me, and the entire scene in general. and my two favourite newcomers: three piece suit .. that funky stuff on texada island completely blew me away with the quality of the tunes and the mixing.. and symmetrik.. my favourite producer in the world and a definitely someone to watch!.. the end goodbye.
