If they combined this with lowering premiums for other people it would be great. However, without that it's just a cash grab.

Im still appalled with with the $300-$500 deductible. Totally sucks when your parked car gets a hit and run. I also think they should put more effort into stopping drunk drivers... I cant count the amount of idiots ive seen on the roads at night.

I'm really tired of using the race card b/c well I rly don't care much anymore but this doesn't add up. Your friends are probably 20-25 years old, likely born here if not have a good grasp on the english language, understand the road rules wether hidden, common courtesy or written. So how would the color of their skin prevent them from being good drivers?

personally I'm glad this is happening, hopefully it will make driving to expensive for a few more unsafe drivers on the road and help pay for their mistakes. just in case you have all forgotten ICBC is a Crown Corporation and has in the past paid rebates when it's had excessive money sitting by.

I only remember 1 rebate and it was for like $60. This is a horrible situation, this effects everyone who makes a road mistake. Getting a ticket will now have 2-3 consequences. It also gives more power to police to fuck people over. If you're happy that your premiums are going up, well I wish you many speeding tickets and see how you feel when it comes time to renew mofo.

Just to reinforce some stereotypes, every single time a driver has almost creamed me and it wasn't my own damn fault the driver was one or more of the following:
1) asian
2) female
3) elderly
4) had Alberta plates

Do I think all those of these groups are poor drivers? Not at all. But the stereotypes do exist for a reason.

My problem is A LOT of drivers arnt getting caught in the first place. I was once in the left lane about to turn left at 3am. There was a car in the right lane about a cars length in front of who suddenly turned left, crossing in front of me, with out a signal. Not only was this the most ridiculous move I have yet to see in all my years of driving (btw ebbo it was a male) BUT there was a cop car coming the other way who saw the whole thing and drove by as if nothing happened??? Why do we have to wait for accidents to happen before we declare if ppl are bad drivers or not?

Also, a lot of the driver committing these dangerous moves couldn't care less if there ICBC insurance goes up. Those who have money will pay no problem. If ppl are going to be driving and making dangerous moves... taking a license/car away is a much bigger consequence than $300+ a year.

Consumers’ Association demands ICBC Reduce Auto Insurance Rates for BC Drivers in Response to ICBC’s Record Profits



The Consumers’ Association of Canada today called on ICBC to immediately reduce auto insurance rates in response to ICBC’s record profits announced Friday. “Over the last three years ICBC has generated two thirds of a billion dollars in profits. It is scandalous that rates are not going down, especially for good drivers”, said Mr. Bruce Cran, national President of the Association.

ICBC’s mandate is to serve BC consumers by delivering the lowest possible rates to BC drivers. “That’s its mandate, serve the consumer, but clearly it’s decided to no longer do this”, said Mr. Cran.

The irony of the auto BC insurance situation is that in Ontario private auto insurers who have just reported record profits are falling over themselves to claim they are reducing rates”, said Mr. Cran. “Meanwhile In BC, the non-profit ICBC is reporting record profits and won’t give up any of these profits to its customers. The question is why?”

“The reason is that ICBC has again become a political pawn of the Provincial Government”, said Mr. Cran.

The Government has ordered ICBC to generate massive profits so that it can build up its financial reserves in order to compete with private insurers. Are consumers supposed to accept that in the topsy-turvy world of ICBC the corporation must generate super profits off the backs of BC drivers in order to build up reserves to more effectively compete with private insurers?

“I don’t know of a more bizarre idea – keep rates artificially high in order to convince BC drivers that Private Insurance Companies can compete”, said Mr. Cran.

ICBC is picking the pockets of BC drivers for at least $500 million in order to finance this crazy scheme of the BC government”, said Mr. Cran. “In fact, it is even possible that ICBC will soon seek rate increases to pay for this bizarre idea”.

“ICBC has a mandated obligation to consumers to reduce rates now”, said Mr. Cran.
