Do a cost benefit analysis. You stand to lose MORE money in cancelling, than if you actually go throught with it. My partner wanted to cancel Outbound Flight the day before the party, AFTER we printed flyers, AFTER we printed posters, AFTER we sold 100+ tickets, and AFTER a non-refundable deposit on a venue, AFTER we bought concession goods, AFTER we paid our main djs, all because we lost a shitty ass venue. We would've lost thousands! What'd I do? Me and my buddy rolled around Saturday afternoon and found another venue 7 hours before the party was supposed to happen. With the help of good friends and hardwork, we setup in the nick of time and delivered a not too shabby party. Granted we didn't sell out or anything, but we sure as hell did our best.

No way would I cancel a party. Think of how many tickets you would have to refund. Think of how many people would get mad at you. Also what little credibility you had would be gone. So I say again, who cares about the money? You have enough to rent the venue? Good! Then your set. Don't have enough money for headliners? So what? Talk em down. Look at Agrodave, took a loss on two Grooves in a row. Busted. Busted. Did he bitch and complain and whine about it? No. So seriously, who cares about the money, especially when its such a small amount.

Look at Apex, almost every company there putting on a stage lost cash, I lost cash, my partners lost A LOT more, but did they care or complain? No. Cuz its about the party kids. Its about making an impression and showing them a good time once in a while. About making them feel valued, because without them this scene would be even worse off than it is right now. Excuse the tirade, but some people need to really weigh the possibilities here and make sure they understand the consequences of their actions.

Just in case my position isn't clear enough, here it is: Don't cancel! Cuz then all your efforts and the time you've put into this party WILL go down the gutter.

What he said. Do what we did, drive around, make some calls, make some shit up about ur best friends bday party he's leaving the country, he goes to the same church as you, it'd be between 30 and 50 of your closest non-alcoholic non-smoking friends. Get it done.

Exactly ...

You wont necessarily have everyone hate you if you cancel this party :

But Tommy once you announce that an event is going to happen you should try as best as you can to follow through with it no matter what.

And saying that this might be potentially cancelled isnt going to pick up my ticket sales for your party either!

tommy: if you're throwing parties JUST to make money, its not gonna happen.

i''m sure you've seen many wannabe promotors come and go within a party or 2 because all they cared about was money and not throwing a party to have fun/let others have fun.

if you're gonna do a party, then do one. dont just rely on presales to pay for things, you have to put money into your party to make it happen. in the end, if you do end up making money then good for you, if you lose a bit, at least you'll gain some experience in the area and perhaps throw a better party for next time.
