There are two ways to be a "smooth sailing" conformist in this society. You can either accept and adapt to what society hands you or you can reject it completely. Either response is evidence of conformity, as neither attempt to challenge or change existing structures.

i think what wum is missing out on is the fact that you can't be a self taught lawyer or accountant. it would also be pretty hard to successfully manage your own company with only a highschool education, especially in the current environment.

If you were addressing a single semantical variable that would be one thing, but you seem to have picked and chosen all the semantic mistakes of the thread and combined them all into a single post. God forbid you look at context, argument and debate those points, instead of just saying "you're wrong because you're arguing it wrong."

I realize in engaging your semantics argument is in and of itself semantics, but for crying out loud, have you ever formed a sensible argument in your life?

You ask him to dissect the arguments and focus on the "bullet points". That would be nice, but that's not what you did. Bullet points would be paraphrasing what each person has said, not taking pot-shots at out-of-context quotes and small snippets of the conversation.

Pay more attention to what people are saying than how they say it. Otherwise you're just looking for excuses to shoot opposing opinions down rather than actually discussing the opinions.

It doesn't matter even if you are right, as the context of the argument proposed can still be considered without the context of illusions of grandeur (think more over of the condition of having a knowledge filter).
