whats the deal with all of the sudden poker shows on tv?

like do people actually watch other people play poker. :|

most shows are in their 4th or 5th season
they're relatively cheap to produce and stay in the 'reality tv' vein while also hitting a vice market
the 'easy to learn, impossible to master' curve on poker leads to a broad viewing audience, especially to fill up time slots like after sports shows

It's like baseball.... i can't for the life of me understand why it's on tv as it's extremely boring to me.... but of course there is a huge audience or else they wouldn't be getting paid multi multi millions to play the game...

I'm a huge poker fan, and play at least 2 times a week, so watching it on TV where there is a million dollars cash on the line is really exciting

The personalities are what keep me coming back.

I've seen near physical altercations, masterful play, guys who annoy the hell out of you because they won't shutup (hence it's fun to see them get knocked out), and any number of other human dramas in played out in the medium of texas hold'em competition.

Good stuff. I watch a lot.

I watch poker on tv/internet almost everyday, I find it very entertaining.
For the people that say..."oh that doesnt help your game" and it might not for you...but for me I think that it has helped my game alot over the last year.
I try to watch what style of play at the moment is winning at what situation of the game.
How much people raise with what hands and in what position preflop etc. etc. And what to do post-flop (if you hit or not)

and I could go on and on......
but yeah, I watch other people play poker alot.

the only thing with tv poker is they only show major action hands and that makes idiots at the casino think they can play big stack poker every hand.

lol, watching poker on tv will make you play worse probably.
you get better by playing 100k hands every 3 months.
