Clamping down on the tubes just means that the sperm will have nowhere to evacuate to. you'd get the worst case of blue balls imaginable. DO NOT WANT.

Also, "untying" tubes is a very risky procedure (heck, getting your tubes tied in the first place is risky enough, which is why most couples intent on never having kids again just opt for a vasectomy) and I'd imagine the fail rate would be pretty damn high.

and as for being unethical.. how did they test the female birth control?

The biology of a bc pill is a lot less intrusive than trying to stop a bodily function altogether. In fact, all you're really doing is increasing the level of hormones so that when you stop taking the hormone (the fourth week of BC usually the pills you're given are just placebos) the body thinks you're not pregnant (regardless of whether or not you are) and you start menstruating. The amount of hormones that you emit to tell your body that you're pregnant is far less than the amount of hormones you've been ingesting from BC, and as such your body notices a drop in the hormone (usually estrogen) and says "Oh, not pregnant no more, time to flush". But since you're getting an increase in those hormones that are pretty much responsible for the emotional difference between men and women, you are more likely to behave in a way that guys think of as "crazy" (as girls whose hormones are out of whack normally do, ie PMS).

Again, the difference is you're just tricking your body into falling into a controlled schedule, not ceasing a bodily function altogether.

No method is 100%. Even vasectomies and tube-tying aren't. it's all just a matter of risk and reducing said risk. But nothing is ever guaranteed.

I agree 100%, which is why I keep saying that people should use TWO forms of birth control and not rely on condoms alone.

Once an IUD is in, it's in. Take a pill at the same time each day and you're good. But a condom can rip, tear, slide off, etc. without you even knowing it. Most of these issues with condoms happen when the user THINKS they're using it correctly, even though they are not. If you know you took your pill 3 hours late because you forgot, you can say "We should use a condom for the next week because I forgot my pill for a few hours today", but a broken condom during intercourse could mean you're shit out of luck unless you realize it and the woman involved picks up Plan B.

i agree that docs dont know everything. which is why your doc did what he did. he knows who you are, he knows your history - kind of why you asked him and not fnk.

^ Yeah but if people I know hadn't been discussing Yaz I wouldn't have known about it and therefore wouldn't have been able to ask my doc about it. Which is why I think it's OK to be discussing birth control methods on fnk as long as that's not the basis of your decision.

OK FINE. its 'easier' for girls to take the birth control.
but i still say the emotional damage it can do can be pretty intense.
i can FEEL myself be normal and in control when im not on birth control.
and when i am, im not neccessarily moody so much as.. my mood is easily 'swayed'.
like a sappy movie that would normally just touch my heart, would have me bawling on the couch when i'm on birth control.
it takes a great deal of struggle for me stay level.

so i would think what it comes down to is that 'blue balls' (or whatever other side affects there were) would be a small price to pay for a guy to assure himself that he is just screwing, and not screwing up.

and yes, i understand its more 'natural' for girls to be pregnant and then not, over and over again.. but i think there should be other (MALE) ways and i still think its a (male) government conspiracy.

^ You know there are different pills with more/less hormones and that it's about finding a balance with your body, right?

I have been on pills in the past that made me have crazy mood swings and be super tired all the time. I've been on the same one for 3+ years now (select 135, it's not very common) and it doesn't affect my moods at all. I'm probably about 7-10 pounds heavier than I would be if I wasn't on bcp, but I also don't have any children :)

K, maybe you don't understand what blue balls is.

It's where your balls actually turn blue because of accumulation of sperm in the scrotum festering. It's also one of the most painful things a male can endure. What it is NOT is an excuse for some dude to say that he needs to get laid (as it so often is used as). If a guy is complaining about getting blue balls tell him to learn how to masturbate, because unless there's some physical trauma involved (in which case sex wouldn't really alleviate their blue balls anyways) it has the same effect.

I'm not saying that it's not unfair and, honestly, if a solid male contraceptive pill came out I'd probably want to take it. My point is moreso that the reason we haven't seen one come to the mainstream market is that there are a lot of serious damaging things that can happen when you're dealing with sterilizing men. I don't think there's a conspiracy or anything to keep the male pill from coming out, I really think it's just a matter of scientific hurdles.
