Listen up, skids!

Anyone using that facecrap site should be aware that your accounts are stupidly easy to hack.

I know this because I just accidentally hacked into a buddy's account.

I'm not on facebook.

On a hunch from another post, I decided to see if I could still search for someone.

Somebody used my machine at some point to access their account.

It remembered the account from my machine. I punched in a "crap" password. It told me to click on "remember me", and it logged me in.

I didn't even _try_!

Now, in light of all the attention this site has been getting, lately, about misuse of personal info, y'all should be a li'l worried about this post.

Just a heads-up.

Somebody accidentally had frosty's browser save their password, ALERT THE AUTHORITIES!!!

Sorry bro, but that's all that happened, it's no different than a web based email account.

You don't need to worry about it, you need to worry about who's worrying about it.

I've accidentally given my password to hack sites, those are the worst. But, to actually navigate easily through Facebook files, would require more than your d.o.b or mothers maiden name.

I'm still pretty paranoid about it. Still not seeing a reason for an account. Happiness has not suffered due to lack of it.

Oh, and apparently they're now under investigation by a Canadian Watchdog for violating Canadian privacy laws? There are so many caveats you have to continually worry about with it it just seems easier to just avoid it altogether.

I realize I'm the resident facebook hater but I still don't see the point when everything you can do there is available elsewhere on the internet.

I'm always curious about everyone's paranoia that their facebook would get hacked.

What are people putting up that's so bad. I think mine consists of some pictures with friends, and the books I'm reading...

there is a person in my life who constantly berates me(usually a five minute tirade, at least three times a week) about the fact that i am exposing myself and my personal information to the world and that someone might steal it.

i check my credit rating every 6 months to make sure nothing sketchy is on it. i have had money taken from my account fraudulently and put in the next day. banks and creditors have so many protections in place, that it doesnt bother me.

it is like having a car accident, yeah it sucks when it happens, but this is why we have insurance. i honestly cant be bothered to sweat the small stuff.

You are all welcome to have access to that...

My issue is how people's information that YOU didn't put up is linked to your profile. And that happens even if you put the privacy settings up, it's just not globally viewable. I've heard of at least two instances however where the servers have glitched out and made all that information public.

It's just too much information in a single place and owned all by a single entity. IMO that's just dangerous. But that's my personal preference. Some people don't mind, power to them.

I realize it's kinda ironic, since I'm probably one of the most public people I know. I can't entirely rationally explain it but it still just freaks me the fuck out.

Huh? What information? You mean photos or posting on someone's? Otherwise there is no information that someone can put up about someone other themselves...

Since that's actually information that does something other then inform the public about how much fun you had at your friend's bbq over the weekend.

And banks also have actual information, where'as facebook has nothing of interest, that isn't already public information. So I don't see the point of comparing the two...

-some distant family member/acquaintance adds you on facebook and you pity-accept it
-they commit some crime/felony/act that is unfavorable
-police/future employer/new girlfriends parents now connect you with this person using facebook, instantly causes your grief

just one of many scenarios that could happen and be unfortunate

happens all the time. i love that the media is making her look like a major eff up due to facebook.

jim, someone could arguably steal your identity with this information alone. alongside your past two addresses, and you can get on to equifax.

If all you need to get on equifax is someone's age and last two places of employment, I think equifax might be the problem in this equation...
