I read a sleep book, okay.....
It's actually technical impossible to go without sleep longer than 48 hours
without the aid of chemicals (amphetamines ect). After the second trough (time when your brain wants to sleep the most) your brain will start imposing micro-sleeps on you. They can be as short as a few miliseconds and you won't necessarily realize that one just took place. This can be dangerous ie driving : asleep at the wheel. It's though the micro-sleeps are the brains way of protecting itself, maby so you won't go mad. Mind you, "staying up" is different than "going without sleep". |

Lots of these numbers I just don't believe. 6 days - no way!!!
Like "big fish" stories (the fish gets bigger every time the story is told). Longest I've been up was about 48 hours, and the mini-hallucinations and micro-sleeps start to happen before that. Dangerous to be driving at that point. |
