Or maybe it's these secular notions in American society that feeds the movement. Studies show that the majority of religious conservatives in America believe salvation should come from within on an individual level. It is these religious-right leaders who espouse these religious ideals and use it as their platform to wage what they have coined as a "culture war." The more the religious individuals believe they are being attacked in the educational system(evolution) and other areas, the more they are willing to vote these people into power. You seen the argument for intelligent design? It's redicolous.

fable, I'm not trying to insult you at all man. The Spike Lee comment was in reference to your apparently strong distaste for white people, and was more of a joke than anything, so I appologize if I have offended you at all.
I haven't been addressing your specific points because I don't disagree with them. I agree that people need to ask themselves why western culture has become so diseased, and everyone needs to arrive at some kind of conclusion pretty fucking soon. I can't really argue any of that, all I can do is comment on how I disagree with the way you present a lot of your points, and repeat how I think your views would be recieved in a much better way if you presented them with a little more tact. If you're looking for honest rebuttals to the points you made, you won't get them from me, because quite frankly I agree with you.

A large portion of my own socio-political activist group are young women, and you better believe that i get checked on my own behaviours at times!!! I have a penchance for a very dirty vulgar way of "ghetto" speak and in admitting to such lightly, im further advancing stereotypes and being prejudicial. I practically get a kick to the junk if i use the word "bitch!" Once i was doing a lot of different events at our anual student week against war and occupation drive, (the acronym was SWAWO) and i mentioned i was the "slut of swawo" and man, did i ever get the gears, and this was just innocent to me, but these words are representative of a language, and the language is representative of an often unchecked form of blatant oppression AND suppression of womens rights and roles!!! Sometimes i just pretend if my moms around, becuase holy fuck, if i talked like that around my ma, id get the fucking backhand that would rattle my teeth! And my moms pushing 60, and im twice her size! You dont fuck around with immigrant moms who raise three kids from hell, went to university in the midst of massive poverty and racism and come out on top without having some strong ideals and values!!!! Shit, my mouth hurts thinking about it!! Womens rights, BIG TIME issue, and the fact that more often then not, many suburban, well to do, feminist groups were reactionary at best and completely detremental to the real womens movements/feminist groups across the globe! And some of these backwards movements were even racist!! I once had a TEACHER GO OFF ON ME, because i was protesting AGAINST the war in Afghanistan, and pointed at me and said "if it was up to YOU GUYS all women would be wearing burkahs!" And believed that the "war on terror" was a legitimate war for womens and human rights! What does this mean, that we need to support the young fledgling feminist groups as well!!! Becasue many of the issues overlap. I tell you, especially all you women of ethnic background, or were immigrants at one time MUCH RESPECT! becasause sometime just being a women is fucking hard enough!! It amuses me to hear white people getting offended at "white trash" because at its core the saying assumes that the average white people isn't trash... the whole distinction of a subgroup of white people being trash assumes that the rest aren't. That's got to the the least offensive racial slur ever.

OK, after being away for a couple of days and watching this thread grow it's actually turned out to be a pretty good debate (fairly respectable too which is rare for FnK).
I want to ask a couple of questions though. 1: Fable you throw your weight around like you yourself have been opressed. From what I can tell you grew up in the middle of white suburbia! I mean I may be off but for all the flogging you do have YOU been opressed or are you speaking for others? Just curious. 2: Now I'm totally playing devil's advocate here, keep that in mind. It's not necessarily how I think personally but I am curious as to what others might have to say about it. Fable you mentioned way back in the thread something about a bunch of chinese immigrants coming in here in containers and they weren't taken care of like they should have been. Why should all Canadians, regardless of race, who are legally settled here be financially burdened with taking care of illegal immigrants? What is it about our great country that has made us the humanitarians that have to be responsible for every other countries poor and unfortunate? I realize this comes off as heartless and I'm not saying this is my view, personally I have no problem helping people in unfortunate situations. While I may not be a crusader for the moral right I do my little bits when I can whether it be volunteering for certain things or donating when I have spare cash.
