as analogy, a restaurant is both a privately held operation and a business open to the public. if you walk in to a steak house and order a full indian dinner they're not required to make it for you. they can define their own content, and you can decide if you want to eat there.

finally, i don't think he was talking about banning parody threads, more banning spamming the board with 12 different inane boring "did you party at so and so" polls, especially when they could have easily been amalgamated in to one big poll with options for picking a whole bunch of places. spam sucks, and the only real responsibility the operators of this board have is to try and keep it running in the best way they see fit.

good job, instead of making numerous polls, erin, you could have made one poll stating all the places you can party and we could have just checked off where we partied. that would have been way easier. and could have been a meaningful thread. making threads while you are bored is a way to piss off everybody, and this is the result i guess.

i guess i'm just used to DOA where free speech (within reason obviously) is the ultimate goal. the only thing besides offensive material that gets deleted there is anything insulting to the monetary backers of the site (dillinja, grooverider, etc) and i think a mod shouldn't be threatening to ban people over 5 threads about nothing offensive. guess that's just me. public/private whatever, if this is a private board where the mods get to decide what topics we can or cannot post about, that is also pretty ridic. (again within reason) if it's a public board, then we can post what we like. idk, maybe i'm the only person who sees it that way, but that's fine by me

This is the last thing I'll type in regards to this issue.

I came into the site and see all these polls put up all over the lounge. Some were legit, some were stupid and as Erin put it "Making a few polls one night before I went out to kill some time... Is it really that big of a deal?"

Well here's my analogy:

This is an open house where you are welcome to come in and chat, converse, do almost what you like in our many various rooms. But we have some rules which we would like you to abide by as it is a privately owned establishment.

If someone comes along and creates a mess in one of the rooms who in the end has to clean up the mess? You? Riiiight.

Yes there is a lot of stupid shit that gets posted on a daily basis. Why don't I do something about them? Well I don't actually read everything that gets posted on this site.

But when I go into a forum and see "Poll.. poll.. poll.. poll.." from the same user with the same lame remark it's not longer a poll and just garbage.

Dabbler I am pretty damn liberal about what I let slide here. If you think otherwise then all I can do is shake my head and wonder how much more you want me to bend over.

I have personally NEVER deleted a thread or post in order to let people understand why I decide to close/lock a thread. This way people understand the justification without pointing fingers at me saying I've gone on a power trip and surpressing the right to do whatever a user wants to do.

This isn't the first time this type of thing has happened on this board and it won't be the last.

I'm one of many mods here. If you don't like how I do things then take it up with one of them.

hmmm, whatever the root was of this thread, and despite varrying perceptions, i have to admit, it was some pretty mature(asides from a few fence sitting idiots) in the face of what it could have turned into.

winston and auto, i hear where your coming from, but i think the anologies where a tad different. If you want to use a restaurant for example then the reality would have been more akin to letting someone into your business because of his/her (ie.) moral beliefs or religeous ideology, or even what he/she chose to wear.

Nope, i agree with you. Perhaps our preceptions may be a tad different, but i think they both are based on the principle, that "initial" comments made by winston where in fact far more inappropriate then some harmless posts. Because its the mods comments and reactions that set any sort of solid precedent. A precedent that says, "enjoy my house" but if i dont agree with you, your out! all the while projecting an image of being an avenue for free speech, community building, harmless fun, and occasional stupidity. Reallistically, the fellow board members should have had the ability to cut down said posts, and only if things got out of hand, the mods step in.

I may be arguing on idealistic terms, and the reality is that you can do whatever the fuck you want to, but if you think the threat of ban excuses you of any scrutiny of YOUR own behaviour, your wrong.

it might help to adopt addressing people specifically in this sort of situation. You only detract from any positive growth or understanding with these sort of comments.

I personally really didnt care for or about your posts, but i opted to just enhage you on it, and got a sincere laugh or two out if (thankyou) But realistically, the matter at hand has nothing to do with your polls and everything to do with the handling of them by figures in "moderator" status.

Agreed. And that is why I have mostly stayed out of this post. I'm sure in the begining it was directed at me because of the the polls going on last night. -I thought they brought up some good memories by the way- however because of the way this post has gone I'm staying out of it. :D The whole thing makes me laugh anyways.

you seem to be an open minded person on all subjects except for one.. A very important one.

Why not listen to other forms of electronic, or music in general. I'm passionate about music. I've seen what you people call fag and gay music live and enjoying insane piano, bass, saxaphone, flute, etc type of solos.
