Not that i really care about random threads that seem pointless or redundant, but your most recent comment seems to be blurring the lines between censorship and keeping things on the level. Since ive been on this board, ive been privy to the entire spectrum of prose, from the inane, to hypocritical, to the intelligent, to the informative, to the heart warming to the hillarious.
Asides from racist, abusive, threatening, and pornographic posts, how can you dictate what is and what isnt acceptable? If this is a public forumn, and is based on a community, and respects the individualism of all in a collective environment, then can you speak legitemetly in this fashion : Quote:
Im not trying to be overtly critical, or condesending, i just think as a moderator, you have the opportunity to lay out the groundwork for an environment that isnt alienating or suppresive, but fun and safe at the same time. I dont think this recent post, does that ideal justice. Honestly there doesnt seem to be a rhyme or reason involved in why entails someone getting banned and what doesnt. just my two cents. |

^ as a mod he has to take into account that users like myself and many others are easily annoyed by these page-filling stupid polls.
They replace any interesting thread there might be under 'new threads'. Hence, the board is now that much more boring, while less and less users are going to even bother signing in anymore. You don't need written rules to take actions here. Some things are common sense. |

Realistically if something is thought of as a community, then a community is what decides, and in the face of overwhelming dissention of opinion then the facilatators or mods in this instance step in. I guess im playing devils advocate in a way, because i for one appreciate some good earnest intellectually challenging prose, but this site is about fun, and stupidity too and a lightness of being as well. Isnt laying down the law, in situations that really dont dictate a need for it, going to make it increasingly more difficult in the future, to stay away from the dreaded hypocrisy? |

I also use some of my political prose (rants?) in the past as somewhat of a related example. Things would always get heated, then people would back peddle, and speak on how this site is supposed to this and that, then the flame wars would start, and everyone would point fingers, oblivious to the three pointing back at them. It was completely stupid, hypocritical and ignorant at times, but usually it worked itself out - this was made easier by people replying to THE CONTENT OF posts INSTEAD OF MAKING VALUE JUDGEMENTS that were either directed at someone or some words.
So whats my point? People like to say inane things, under the assumption (wether feigned or not) that its all in fun. So if we accept this, then arent we locked into accepting it all? (once again discounting obvious racism, threats or porn) Ill use "erins" recent polls as example: where they dumb? |perhaps| Where they so dumb that it imposed on peoples mental environment? |Irrelevent| -because if you come on this board, you have the option of NOT reading what YOU DONT want to. And if its the content of the prose thats pissing you off, then ADD SOMETHING OF YOUR OWN. The best remedy for ignorance, is not finger pointing, or assigning of fault, or rules/regulations and passive agressive threats, its INTELLIGENCE. So write something witty, something funny, or dont write anything at all. Is your perogotive. another two cents Last edited by fable; Dec 29, 05 at 07:41 AM. |

wtf? Prime example of something inane, and irrelevent. Whos causing shit? My words are respectful of the mods, and ARE NOT accusatory, or belittling.
whereas something like, "add to the thread, you fence sitting, finger pointing, clueless fuck" would be in fact accusatory or belittling. :) |

I think the impression that Winston is trying to convey is that if one is to contribute a poll thread, perhaps people can either make it entertaining, and/or if it's along the same category, we can group them to create an actual poll instead of continuous YES or NO threads.
:kimmie: PS... I do concur that they were quite annoying |

if you want to claim that it's public in any way, then it's public. straight up. which means censoring parody threads and the like really shouldn't be done just cuz it's annoying. censoring thinngs just cuz someone doesn't like them is not the way a 'public' board should run

Winston, i wasnt talking shit, and i didnt intend to paint a negetive picture of yourself personally, but your recent words are unacceptable in a public place. Privately owned business are still theoretically subject to a community based cutomery "law" In the real world - although infractions are still extremely widespread, but still infractions by definition, Quote:
