Would've bought this excuse the first year they did it, but they then proceeded to use it for two years after when they were told the name was already use by a local promotion team. Of course, because this crew is a volunteer crew and it's not the kind to hire lawyers, so of course these promoters don't give a shit whose party they might be confusing with.

And THEN they pretend that nobody's ever confused about it, despite the fact that every year, on fnk, there has been vehement vocalization that you've ripped off the name. Not to mention the number of times I've had to correct people when talking about the real Trancemission ("Isn't that one of those Maritime parties?" "Sigh... no....")

So stop pleading ignorance for the promoters. They've known about this since they first announced the first show by this name that they did. And they've had well over two years to correct it, but decided instead to let the confusion reign.

As Avana mentioned... Spooky will be thrown again only if we feel we've found a LEGAL venue appropriate to host it. Clearly Maritime, Riverside or the Palace is not one of those.

Seriously though, I don't know this Attila guy (met him at his parties a few times though), but it seems like half the people here hate him based purely on cliquey-hearsay. I'm sure there's been things that he's done to annoy people in the past (you've got to get a reputation somewhere, right?), but honestly there's dirt to be dug up on every last promoter in this city.

for the rest of the scandals, i agree, and i have said it in the past, vancouver forgets. they all shit talk, and insult and the promoter brings an act they like, and they all kiss ass again.

it is up to the people who pay for the tickets to keep them accountable. i personally dont go to shows of promoters that i have deemed shady. granted, i dont go to a lot of shows per se, but i do try to go to the ones i support, or show support in some way. if everyone were the same, it would weed out the people you dont respect fast.

just an afterthought.....

for many, the party scene is about going to a party to get messed up. or to be at that underground all night show. they like to party, but arent in the scene deep enough to know the difference.
