Subset is still what you're looking for.

a sub-genre is a subset of the genre....

Vocal trance is a subset of trance
Nuskool is a subset of breaks
etc.

Greater than doesn't translate well, it makes it look like you're making comparisons as far as quality goes.

Is a logical fallacy. It will always evaluate to false.

Either HHC == HC or HC !== HHC.

Never both. Make up your mind.

HHC == HC <=> HC == HHC

Therefore if HHC == HC evaluates to true, HC !== HHC will evaluate to false.

Your logic is flawed. Pounding it into people's heads will just confuse them when they get to uni-level math.

I guess I should comment on this since I've been the only person in Vancouver who's been steadily playing Happy Hardcore for five years.

People will mention hardcore, and yes people will say bring on the Happy Hardcore, when it is mentioned.

However remeber this, most people don't like hardcore. I've been exposed to hardcore/gabber for a long time, and have never had an appreciation of it. I do however enjoy happy hardcore/freeform. So when someone mentions hardcore, people will want to discuss the hardcore they enjoy. In this case, happy hardcore.

Well Niko - not too many people know that happy hardcore is a derivative of hardcore. Hardcore has a lot of sub-genres... and happy hardcore is the most popular one of those to the general masses, and thus - that's why people call it that.

Some of the common 'hardcore' sub-genres are:

- Happy hardcore
- Breakcore
- Gabber
- Speedcore
- Nnoisecore
- Makina
- IDM / Glitch
- Japanese hardcore
- Breakbeat hardcore
