ADVICE: dj'ing in a small apartment
I have 2 Behringer Truth B2031A's on weighted speaker stands in my living room. They're great speakers in that, they're really loud.
I have a house party tonight and the bass passes straight from my speakers through the stands and into the ground. which eventually lead into my neighbour's downstairs. I've worked with him to find a good listening level that is loud enough to hear from my place but they can barely hear in their place. However, I have a houseparty tonight and i can expect the music to get a little louder as the night goes on and as people come. Is there anything I can do to help reduce the vibration that goes through the floor? I was thinking of Sound Proofing Foam under the speakers. But perhaps the bass will still make it through...? Anyone with previous experience or advice? |

Good advice guys. I dunno about putting them up in a hotel because i ain't ballin like that... I was thinking of getting them a bottle of wine or movie tickets... And it's not that I want a super thumper house party. It's just a house warming party and i want to be considerate of my neighbours. And adam, I definitely do not want to invite them. 40 somethings drinking with 20 somethings? i think not.
I just hope they're okay with going through 1 noisy evening because we're typically really good. |

Dude, those foam pads look like exactly what i'm looking for. Sweet, thanks.
Thankfully I'm in the top corner of our building. Only the people directly below me are affected by the noise. It's a good thing too because i couldn't buy stuff for ALL my neighbours if i didn't live on the top floor and was living between people. |

yo bud they sell these interlocking mats at martial art and fitness stores that you can set the stand on. they work well when you set down weights but if youre having a bangin party party and you want to continue on being friendly with your neighbours i think moving to a concrete building would be best.
hope you have fun. |

Lawrence - just be totally honest with them -IE: "I'm having my housewarming tonight... just in case things sound a bit to loud, just let me know - here is my cell number and a couple of bottles of wine for the trouble."
If things do get to loud, you've already warned them and they have your personal cell to let you know first vs. the concierge/security or the Police. |

Carrie, my dear, of course i would have if i had a way to contact you! Sneer at mike and matt for me! Next time?
Kraig, I did that before the party and we ended up not getting any complaints. We kept the music quite low though through out the evening. Our neighbour seemed cool about everything in the morning. Adam, just because I'd smoke a doob with your dj kraig, that doesn't mean i'd smoke a doob with just any 50+ yr old. |

Invite your neighbors, tell them you plan to spin. I'm sure they'll understand. Everyone is allowed a party, but it's nice to slip a note under the door to explain what's going on, just so that people are prepared for some rumbling bass throughout the night. In an apartment, I think the max time is 1am, before you hit up a club.
