Why does weed cause Social Anxiety??
NEED HELP/ ADVICE!
So why does it cause social anxiety? I've been smoking it kind of heavily for the last 2 years and I've been dealing with the anxiety big time for the last few months or so!!!! Quite an experience, but of course a very unpleasant one. Anyone else experience this or can provide some good advices? I would say its like being... super shy?! :wacko: |

Shy to the point its really annoying, ruining my social life, making me nervous, etc.
I've been cutting down lately cuz its like... I don't see myself being able to get a girlfriend if this anxiety stays or worsens, cuz the anxiety/ shyness really overwhelms me. On a side note I've been blazing since 2001, but wasn't really doing a lot at all, until 2005. So I would say this damage its doing to me is from the past 2 years... ADVICE PLEASE :) THANKS |

I thought so.
My theory is that a lot of my anxiety comes from the physical effect that weed has on me.. I swear it makes my heart race. I figure my brain takes this acceleration of my heart rate to mean that I'm in some sort of anxious situation, and finds something to be agitated about. Some people crash out when they smoke. Not me.. if I get really stoned, I can expect to stay awake for ages... Go figure. |

Same here. Pretty much the higher I get, the longer I stay awake, probably cuz my mind doesn't rest but think of everything during my high. I only sleep when I burn out, or feel uncomfortable from smoking too much or something like that.

weed puts you deep inside of your head. it hightens sensitivity to your surroundings and inner workings of your own psyche.
being around people while in this state sort of forces you to want to come out of your head, but its difficult to shift the focus from inside to outside. I smoke it everyday. I try not to smoke it before I have to go to work/school because it makes my personality more withdrawn/erratic. If I am going out socializing, pre drinks are a must---unless it's just close friends. |

stop fucking smoking weed... god what a retarded thread.. are you a junky or some shit? will you get sick and start puking in your bed while lying in a fetal possition if you stop smoking it? you're making it sound like you HAVE to smoke it... if you don't enjoy the high, then don't smoke it... that's why i dont blaze... when i blaze i get like that too... i get really self conscious and feel awkward... so i simply don't smoke weed WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT A SOLUTION WOULD HAVE BEEN SO SIMPLE?! |

No.. I mean I get this shit even when I'm not high. Therefore, I'm really wondering if it will go away if I cut down or quit weed, cuz it seems like the anxiety thing has kinda shifted my 'thinking' towards certain stuff... such as social gatherings, when engaging a conversation with people (especially from the opposite sex).
I do think it will go away, but not exactly sure, so would definitly wanna find out or get some advices. Thanks for all the great replies so far. Some pretty damn good tips :idea: |

lol if you have social anxiety then why are you asking about weed?
The problem is quite obvious here so maybe you should go see your Dr and stop smoking weed? If it is getting in the way of your life then you need to fix it. I knew a guy who was so crippled by it he had to be home schooled through high school. I also knew some people who just needed to sort out the logic in their head. You need to figure out what part of that spectrum you're on. Why are you anxious in certain situations? Ask these kinds of questions and reorganize your thought processes, or seek professional help. |
