I call you ignorant because that is the way you come off. Travelling around the world, and seeing poverty/disease doesnt make you a better judge of whats going on. Doing something to help is better than nothing at all. This thread isnt about our social/economical/political situations..its about ADOPTION. I have said nothing how I feel on those situations. =D

Again, please answer my previous question of "Since when did you become Mother Teresa"? What have you done for the world lately that hasn't had some selfish motive behind it? In all honesty, I think that travelling to various places around the world and seeing the non-tourist side of things entitles me to have an opinion on what I think of situations like these...

you have GOT to be kidding. what would the effect of a significant turn around in third world countries be on us? care to enlighten me, since you seem to know all about it here?
|
Significant to the point of being a fully functional country in a first world state. This would have a drastic effect on the entire world... lets not forget everyone's favourite three letter word: OIL. I'm sure you're smart enough to connect the dots from there. If for example Somalia threatened to take over Canada, or invade Canada for any reason right now, it would be laughed at left right and center. Should Somalia one day posess the power and military back up to actually pose a threat, it could become a major issue. (Remember, they wouldn't be fighting 3rd world style... they'd be first world, and that could pose a threat, not to sound like a terrified conservative redneck or anything...) As of right now, we (in the first worlds) live in a fast food/wasteful nation. Always a great supply of food, usually goes to waste... great! We need to keep it like that! Should Africa (I really don't know why I keep picking on Africa) become a first world country, their population will boom, the births will outweight the deaths, AIDS will still be a disease, but not as drastic as it is there now, the need for life supplies will gradually become scarce... we can't keep up with the population of the earth as it is, just imagine how boned we'd all be if this actually happened.

No. Let's not. We need those people.

Sadly enough, stupid people breed. It's the ignorant who should not breed. It's the people who can't look at two sides of the argument thuroughly and base their decisions based on what their heart says is right, and not the mind.
Start listening to yourself. Start listening to other people. You COULD learn a lot.

K, in all seriousness...
I can't stop coming back to this post over and over, just based on the ignorance.
Is it the babies fault for this? Should this be allowed to continue? Should men in Africa continue to rape babies because it balances out North America's economy, and make us feel better about ourselves?
You are nothing more than a waste of flesh you ignorant, self important scrunt.

You really should have left that last part out, makes it kinda hard to take you seriously.
Anyway, in no way shape or form and I promoting child rape, how the hell did this even get brought up? Either way, I'm quite confident that you're not thinking of that child who's getting raped everytime you go out to a club, have a drink, eat a sandwich, dwell on what shirt to wear that day.... and if you are, maybe you should go join some Catholic missionary group out there in the Congo. Dan't say words that you cannot follow yourself daily. How does that effect you really? So, I have do ask, are you thinking about raped African children when you're out with your buddies having a good time? No? Ok... next quote...

there is only so much we can do on an individual basis, we need our government to pool together to make a larger difference.

You sound like you have a good heart. However, we need to focus on domestic issues, instead of helping other countries develope... if everyone else in 1st and 2nd world countries can get their act together, what's wrong with those in the 3rd world? Right now, let's clean up the DTES, focus on why there are so many "Don't beat your wife" signs around skytrain stations, work on OUR poverty problems, figure out why the cost of living is sky high and most people work 2 jobs to pay their bills...get the conservatives out of government... get those issues (and many more) out of the way, then start focusing on foreign countries...

however, that doesn't happen the way that we have our global economy set up. corporations are so powerful now because they have no home base they can overpower the countries in which they are stationed and take advantage of the people there by threatening to just leave and close the factory down if they don't agree to lower standards.
if those factories provided for the needs of the people in that country, then it's fine.

I couldn't have put it better myself.
And if you don't think that its right for children to work for $0.04 per hour, stop buying name brands who MASS PRODUCE North American crap for hundreds of dollars each.
