Just about every person that I know that's been at all involved in the sex trade industry says that on a majority women who work in it are NOT damaged/abused/from a broken home. Most of them are just people making a living. However, the per-capita rate of abused/broken/oppressed people within the sex trade is much higher than any other. This is not because the sex trade, by definition, exploits the workers. It's that it's a base job that any woman can get into, even if all their other options have been burned for whatever reason, moral or no.
The only thing preventing a woman from getting into the sex trade is her own personal hangups and scruples that have to do with working in the sex trade.
