after one of my night shifts this week about five of us went out for breakfast. before our food come, someone noticed that there was a dead mouse underneath our table. people screamed. people ran. i refused to look down because i knew i would probably do the same. after we'd been seated at a new table that didn't have a dead mouse under it, i commented that it was very weird that a group of nurses wouldn't even blink at the site of something gross on one of our patients, would freak out at the site of a tiny dead mouse. |

drawing on whiteboards and having meetings really isn't all it's cracked up to be.

Training involves sub-zero conditioning, subjection to excessive decibel environments, and partying your fucking ass off. Tuition is roughly between $250 and $500 per lesson paid in cash - wiseguy rolls only please. Ditch that half-rate school and send your application to my PM box.
Don't forget to bring an apple. |

i'm studying industrial design which is sometimes an overwhelmingly multi-disciplinary field... i have a lot of interests and would like to do at least a few of the following:
infiltrate a corporate giant to direct them to be green sustainable urban planning/ urban densification development projects develop co-operative housing and/or community projects - i feel like i could offer a lot to communist countries in this area user-based reasearch design - especially big in electronics but is going to be everywhere street furniture - bus stops, mailboxes, street lights - just like one decent sized contract would be neat but overall it's not impactful (or paid) enough eco-friendly transportation units or systems when i'm in my prime i may persue commercial architecture but most likely i'll raise some babies maybe do some furniture/ interior design or write for magazines on the side/ into retirement... |

i just want to be a painter. i dont mind being a nanny right now, i get to be a pirate or batman most days, and go on bug hunts or see if you can make rocks stick to fences with mud, jump on trampolines, build forts and play hide and seek. and i get to make alot of art with the kids.
but when its all said and done, i want a studio, and i just want to make art. and of course i want to be a mom. i dont think i could handle being a nanny if i didnt want to be a mom at some point. realistically, ill probably enter some sort of artistic trade - jewelery making has been an intrest lately. maybe i'll get a company off the ground. |

I'm finishing my degree by next summer and my gradution will be November of next year. By the end of summer I'll have moved out east... likely to Toronto or Montreal and see where life takes me.
Unlike many others I've never been inspired by just one career goal. There are plenty of things that interest me but I can't imagine myself picking just one career and focussing my energies towards that one ultimate goal. I think that instead, I'll try different things until I eventuall "fall" into a career. Prozac said it best, it's a journey.. not a goal. In the long run I generally just want to be happy in both my career and personal life. |

For the last 4+ years I have been an Educational Assistant with the Richmond School Board, mostly in Elementary schools. I have, however, been working (paid positions) in the Human Service field for over 10 years (and was volunteering long before that).
It sounds like a long time, but I started at 14 working with children with special needs in a summer day camp. I completed my Community Support Worker certificate (plus) in 2002. For a while I even worked supporting adults wth developmental disabilities, but I've decided I'm best with kids. I'm going to be going back to school in the fall, looking more like part time now, to stretch my brain in a new way. Although my plan changes shape almost daily, I think that I will wind up being a teacher (either intermediate elementary, or high school). Hopefully I can continue to manage working full time for the school district as an EA while working towards my degree, only taking a leave later to complete my PRP. I'm really drawn to a career that will allow me to have the same time off (evenings, wknds, holidays etc) as my future children, because having a family that I can spend time with is something that is really important to me. Career A:
Much like Nev, Ive been working with kids and kids with special needs since I was 12. After high school I took the SETA program at Cap College and was hired as a Special Education Assistant for the school board in Fall 2004. Its been 3 great years and so far ive continued educating myself with courses such as ABA, ASL, Coaching, and a variety of behavior and educational work shops. With all my experience and being so young ive decided to go back to school this fall and begin working on my teaching degree (Special Ed & PE) Once I start and tackle teaching I plan to go back again and earn my masters. This will open up other career fields in education with Admin or Student Support. Career B: I never really expected to get to were I am with DJ'ing, Promoting, and Producing. I actually consider it a part time job now. Of course I dream, but understand reality. Therefore Ill still leave this door open for opportunities to grow for an other 5 years or so. Even then when I do get old and "retire"... Ive thought about starting a small mobile dj business with in the community since I know so many parents who are in need of us for weddings, small events, and school dances. Sadly I kind of regret not getting more into media art. I got really frustrated having to pic between photo, drafting, and graphic design and having a lot of courses I wanted to take cancel on my in highschool. I ended up picking education as my career path since it was something I already had a lot of experience in and enjoyed. Although I do hope I can take some of these things as electives while earning my degree in teaching and maybe make something out of it or teach it. Im still hoping to prove ppl wrong that you can do everything you want in life :p Last edited by R Wellbelove; Apr 12, 07 at 11:15 PM. |

i'm actually taking a break from writing cover letters and came across this, haha.
** whatever i do, i will be involved with writing. it's what i love, it's what i'm good at, and it's what everyone needs. i'm in the process of negotiating a freelance food critic job, which will be fun. i have a BA in classical & religious lit from UBC, and a public relations certificate from Langara. i'd like to work in marketing/communications/event management, particularly with a travel & tourism company. it took a personal crisis to get me here, but i'm really, really excited about the new steps i'm taking. the present will be full, the future will be rewarding. i'm realizing that partying was just stunting my growth, and something's finally clicked. stoked. :) |

At BCIT? I've got a number of Friends that have done the Program there. It's a real good one.
The program at Centennial here in Toronto apparently comes with high praise as well. I'm counting on staying with the Airline I'm with right now and just transferring from the Ramp over to Maintenance Apprentice. |
