Fair enough.
I should also mention to people that I read obsessively. So don't hold back on the heavy titles. This is just to fill a long period of boredom where I won't have an opportunity to restock my material. Actually, I won`t have a chance to pick any more up before I leave in 2 hours, but I come into town for a week every three, so next time I`ll pick them up. |

Right now Zadie Smith rocks my world. Finished "On Beauty" a while ago, working my way through her acclaimed debut "White Teeth" at the moment. The latter is even more epic in its scope and the depth of its characterizations than the first.
Ian McEwan has long been a favorite of mine. He's so meticulous with his language, every page is a joy to dissect. Someone mentioned "Atonement", I'll add "Saturday" to any must read list, and "The Comfort of Strangers" for a shorter, more tightly wound read. |

Conrad's intense. If you've ever enjoyed Apocalypse now you need to pick up Heart Of Darkness. It's about 80 pages long but the diction is dense. I'm a fast reader but it takes me forever to get through his sentences. Every single word is selected almost. It's a real experience to read. Basically Apocalypse now took the same story but set it in the Vietnam War instead of colonial Congo.

the movie was excellent, but only because i read the entire thing. as a representation of the books.. it sucked. anne rices vampire series is excellent. dark and romantic with some great ideas and great storyline. who doesnt want to live forever? |

well.. technically when he first wrote them, they didnt make sense. it was a series of short stories (i think the radio shows were the originals) (i think...haha)
he later pieced them together to make them into books. so the entire thing feels a little bit loopy.. which i think adds to the GREATNESS!!! of it all and half of it doesnt really make sense anyways.. more greatness!!! |

That's all hearsay and second-hand information, but honestly I really can't stand her lofty philosophy... she strikes me as a bit of a goth-poser... Ever listen to her in interviews? It's like reading a livejournal... |
