Looking for some hair advice
Its been about 5 months since I last highlighted my hair. I've been avoiding my hair dresser because every time I've gone back to this one salon I've hated my hair colour, cut and it has left my hair very damaged. It not worth the $$$.
I got the lady to recommended shampoo/conditioner to restore my hair. Ive found over the past months my hair keeps breaking and Im going crazy not doing anything to it. I need a change! I do go and get it trimmed every 7 weeks. But it doesn't seem to be helping. Are there any products or salons that you would recommend ? (In and around Coquitlam) I want to change my look without over processing... and hopefully find a Stylist that will listen and help me maintain healthy hair. |

coming from a girl who has gone from black to blonde, bedhead's "dumb blonde" shampoo and conditioner was a dream product for my hair, the conditioner is really really nice to hair that is in bad shape after getting it lightened.
If you're getting hilights or getting your hair lightened, it's hard to avoid some damage. Make sure you are extremely nice to your hair for the few weeks after it's been processed, do NOT wash it daily or brush it too much and try to stay away from hair dryers/straighteners for a bit. |

^ Yea I was very blonde this time last year... and the guy I used to see in N.Van no longer works there and did not give his clients any info on where he went. He was amazing, I would have a ton of blonde put in (there would be some damage/breakage) but not as much as I have now.
I will try out Bed Head for sure! |

1. Find a stylist who will LISTEN to you and shape your "dream hair" together. Share your hair goals with him/her. I know that sounds lame, but tell her whats up... Are you growing you hair, etc? Do consults before you get in the chair with someone with scissors.
2. DO NOT wash your hair for 1-3 days after colouring. Your colour will set MUCH better, and besides, your hair is very porous (sp?) post-treatment... Give it some time to get the natural oils back. 3. Joice makes this great line called K-Pak that is AMAZING for damaged hair. I use it post-colour and it absolutely helps 4. Redken Anti-Snap is a great leave-in conditioning/sealing/smoothing product that will help reduce breakage. 5. I can highly recommend my stylist (shared with me by the lovely Ashlee, Myra, and perhaps even Shayna I think) for cut AND colour. She has processed my hair many times and I have never left with damaged hair, nor has it been damaged afterward beyond what is reasonable. Good luck! |

Find out what kind of dye they use and make sure that whichever salon you switch to doesn't use the same stuff. It could be the brand of dye that your hair is reacting to. Bumble and bumble dyes fucked my hair - I love their products but the salon I used to go to use B&B dyes and my hair was ruiiiiined. I haven't coloured it in over two years and it's STILL recovering.
That said, my stylist is Sarah at Salon 6 in Steveston (Richmond). It's a bit of a trek for you but she's WELL worth the drive and money. I use Redken Anti-Snap (blue bottle) leave-in conditioner to try to fix my breakage. It's very lightweight - I have basically the limpest, most fine hair possible and it doesn't weigh it down. Healthy Sexy Hair products are also wicked because they contain soy proteins! |

Is that the new(ish) salon opened by Kristy Brunner (formerly of Hennessey)??

Yes ma'am!
All the ladies are formerly of Hennessey - I went to high school with Sarah and Loni, who are best friends, and both are fucking amazing with hair! In the 5 years I have let Sarah do my hair, she has never once even remotely disappointed me. She does exactly what I ask for unless she is absolutely sure it won't work (i.e. if my hair is too thin for the style I want). If she doesn't think it will work she goes over with me: why, how to get something similar, or what we could do instead. SHE ROCKS! |

im big on the bumble and bumble product wagon right now.
the super rich conditioner is a dream! from my experiences...leave you hair alone for a few months. the less straightening, coloring, blow drying the better. thank god for products like the bumble and bumble curl creme and straight lotion, my hair can be styled much easier without heat tools. also find out what type of hair color your stylist uses. i know my (and nevs) old stylist used terrible bleach that damaged our hair quite a bit. but now our new stylist uses a lightener so delicate we leave with silky soft hair just after a color. |

I’m going to check out the Salon that Kat recommended. It had a website that I could look up prices ect... and the girl was really nice on the phone when I explained my situation to her. I’m going to get a K-Pak treatment and consultation tomorrow evening. Then I'll decide if I just want a cut or a cut/colour.
Nev, Galaxie and Ashlee thanks for all the advice! I had my "dream hair" last year... then I was stupid and decided to get some lowlights. The lowlights turned out black and my blonde hair looked grey. I had to dye it twice in once evening to brown. There was no way I was going to walk around with greyish looking hair. I had a few highlights over the months, but after the last set I had put in I stopped getting my hair coloured. If I’m going out I have to wash my hair... and blow dry to style. If I don't wash my hair every two days it becomes very very greasy. I know if I was to lay off blow drying it would help the condition of my hair... but leaving it to dry naturally looks dead and limp. My hair is fine, limp and straight/wavy. Hopefully after tomorrow I'll have all the products I need to get my "dream hair" back :) |

Oh and I agree with Myra, Bed Head's Dumb Blonde is great shampoo and conditioner for treated hair. |

Oscar Blandi Pronto Dry Shampoo! I love this (and I'm pretty sure Avana does, too!). It smells nice, like lemons, so it gets rid of that "dirty hair" smell. I even use it right after a wash to prevent the oil from even really starting on my roots - my problem is that I have very dry ends bc they have been coloured, but oily roots because I don't colour anymore. Anyhoo, this product is available at Sephora and is especially great if you can't seem to match your hair to the B&B stuff! (it's a lot cheaper, too!)
