Are you voting?
Well are you?
Honestly this time around I am not (haven't even received a ballot this year anyways). I watched both debates and am really not impressed with any of the candidates. Harper is trying to bring up proposals that have has either exist or are the same proposals that he and his party voted against when they were the opposition. Jack Layton is a complete liar and almost looks like a modern day Vladimir Lenin. Dion doesn't know how to speak french or english, you don't know whether he is trying to make a statement, asking a question, answering a question and he looks absolutely clueless just like Layton. Gilles Duceppe is just as pointless and thinks he is direct debating against George Bush. As as per Elizabeth May..... What a waste... I don't care if your the leader of the lollypop's guild... She is not an elected official in her riding / district and shouldn't of been involved in the debate at all. Infact... Here's a random fact that alot of people may not know... She's actually an American. Born and raised in Connecticut by a british father and an american mother... And has only been up in canada since 72. |

Why is it even a question if your going to vote or not? It shouldn't take you long and there are rules that state that your work has to allow you time off to vote as well... so no excuses. Do you have any idea how many people in other countries are protesting to have a democratic government. Did you forget how our ancestors risked there lives to over rule the Monarch, than fought for the right for women to vote, the right for natives and all other citizens to have the right to vote?
Anyways do some research and if you dont like any of the parties, at least look at the local ridings in your area.It shouldnt be so hard when we have over 4 parties to choose from either. Last edited by R Wellbelove; Oct 02, 08 at 10:05 PM. |

Everyone thought Bart had it in the bag, and did not bother to vote. Martin ended up winning 1 - 0 because he took the time to vote. |

Anyone who is not voting:
What makes you apathetic in voting, what is it about the candidates that makes you not want to vote? Do you believe in strategic voting, voting for the party who is most likely to beat a Conservative majority or do you feel your riding is leaning so far towards one party that there's no use in voting? Your answers will help me in forming questions for an interview with someone who worked for Harris/Decima polling. |

elections are publicly funded in Canada, SO if you vote for a party they get money for your vote in the next election. also it is your constitutional right to vote, you do not need to be registered. you can go to any polling station in your riding and cast a ballot. bring ID and a piece of mail with you. if you have neither bring someone who does and they have to sign a statement saying you are who you are.
as for who to vote for? please do not vote for a failed war on drugs, failed economic policy, and military intervention. please do not vote for the conservatives. we have seen what happened in the US and don't need that here!!!!! |

In past elections I haven't thought that any of the local candidates were any better than the others, so I just said "Ein, whichever you guys want". I don't always vote. Basically I reserve my vote for when I want my choice heard, plain and simple. That doesn't happen every election. The people who fought for the right to vote fought for just that - the right to do so. And I have every right to not vote if I choose to. |

Exactly! This is why you should also avoid voting strategically. Take for example the Green Party. 20 years ago they were nothing, 10 years ago they were a small party, and now there not only on the debating platform, but have approx 12% of the countries vote. Even if the party you wish to win, doesnt, at least your still supporting them both mentally and financially! |

Although it's not really worth getting into online (political discussions always turn ugly), I find it rather strange that someone would consider me a worthless piece of shit for not voting for a guy I would have voted for anyways, and is a lock to win his riding regardless.

In Canada, we elect parties, not people. I don't plan to vote. I would have to vote by mail and the Conservatives (for whom I would vote) won >70% of the vote for the past two elections in my riding, so why bother? What really grinds my gears is people who bitch about others that don't vote, but when it came time for the debates, they watch the American VPs instead. If you're going for vote, you need to know what the fuck you are doing. By voting just for the sake of voting you just ruin it for people that actually have a fucking clue. I am strongly against universal suffrage. When I say this, people usually assume I don't want women or blacks or immigrants voting, but really I just don't want uneducated, uninformed bitch-tits voting for a party just because "that's the party they've always voted for." I used to be NDP as that is what my parents always voted. Then I realized, my parents are a bunch of brain dead, bleeding-heart hippies who would rather see the entire country go to hell than have a few homeless drug addicts without medicare. I challenge all of you who actually plan to vote to really look at the pros and cons of your party. /rant? P.S. If I there was a quebecois representative in my riding, I'd totally vote for them. Pave the way to Western Sovereignty. Also I'd totally go gay for Duceppe |
