Courtney-Yes I discriminate against idiots. If a deer is weak, or slow, or retarded it won't be able to find food, it might starve to death. Or it might become prey. regardless it's killed off and removed from the gene pool. This goes for ALL beings on this planet, except as of recent times, humans. Why should we support the weak? All we're doing is giving them a chance to marginally survive and pro create, thus weakening future generations.
Also to deal with the drug issue/nurture issue I have a few very personal examples which have helped form my personal views on the subject. Drugs: My best friend grew up in a middle class family. He was a very talented athlete, rated one of the best junior figure skaters in Canada(hold the lulz) and also the #1 ranked tennis player in our age group in Alberta South(of Calgary). This friend got his own place and learned freedom. He started partying a lot. First he just drank then started smoking pot. He moved to doing E and coke, to trying crack. He became 'addicted' to crack. He lost his job, was evicted form his house and became homeless. He stayed homeless for months(6 or so) lost touch with his family and friends, and continued to do crack, surviving of fof stealing. he was finally busted for stealing a car. Seeing as it was his first offence, he was given community service, provided a job as a Tennis coach and ordered to find full time work. he did, quit drugs with no outside assistance, and now 4 years later he's still able to drink without losing control, and occasionaly do drugs(not crack). He's held a good paying job in a position with a lot of responsibilities for over 3 years now. My dad: My dad's stumbled twice in his life. He got himself together when I was born and moved his way up an insurance company, become a territorial manager making the big bucks. He slid in to a partying, spending lifestyle and became addicted to cocaine. He lost his job and racked up over 100k in debt. He had to sell off all 3 houses he owned and move away. He quit drugs cold turkey, and started his own business. He's now very successful Now you wanna talk about situations and dysfunctional families. My parents met at a bar. Within a week before they met, my dad had just gotten out of jail and my mom the psych ward then rehab for drug addiction and trying to kill herself. My dad was absent in my life(on and off) until I was maybe 13. My mom is a bleeding heart socialist on one hand sympathetic to everyone, while at the same time being pessimistic and negative about all goals and risks. Out of my parents, at 15 I opted to move in with my dad getting his life back together. I maintained A's, played sports, and worked throughout high school to buy clothes and have spending money. I've been pretty unhappy at times. At one point I actually WANTED to self destruct and TRIED to become addicted to booze and various drugs. I tried, hard, for a couple months and nothing. I snapped out of it, have occasional urges but make my decisions based on logic and reason. For someone to become addicted, and not be able to stop, to relapse and not hold a job, in my opinion they have to be an incredibly weak person. They deserve no help or sympathy. It's a waste of time, effort, and emotion. |

I'd leave but I have too many things keeping me here. The values of the nation aren't across the board. They differ Province to Province. I'd be content in Alberta for the most part, but what's tying me to Canada is tying me to Vancouver area also. I actually was going to be transferred to the States back in 05(to Denver) but my company got in a snag getting visas for a couple co workers of mine, and by the time thigns were worked out, the Denver account was going through so issues, and the Vancouver account would have crumbled without my numbers. Shit happens. Also to use comparative reasoning to call the Conservatives neo cons doesn't fly. By the standard of some people in this Province, I'm probably a reckless industrialist destroying the environment because I drive a lot(for work) in a gas guzzler, and only recycle most of the time. Comparative reasoning doesn't make it fact. Also I don't hate people outside of sales. My whole point when I bring up sales is that anybody can do it. You don't need anything special, no extra education. I don't have a degree. A friend of mine is making over 10grand a week and he's dumb as nails, he just works hard(over 100 hours a week). if you don't like sales, don't want to take risks, for guys their's construction and labour jobs. Decent paying with a huge demand, and for girls their's waitressing jobs. If you are a good waitress you'll clean up on tips. Welfare should only be available for the most extreme cases. |

Dude I've trained people who could barely speak english to make 15-20 an hour.
All I look for is a good attitude and a willingness to learn. If you have a good attitude, and are willing to follow instructions, you will make a decent living. You may not be the best, but you'll make more than most other job's could offer. |

some people, no matter how nice they are,how hard they work, how much they listen and qualify their clients just seem to buckle when it comes time to ask for the sale and close. |

^ Then they aren't following your instructions. I have my staff flat out tell people they are new and read the pitch off of a sheet. They write a sales at first based on their personality, and I have training bonus's to keep them working long enough so it gets hammered in to their brain what to say and do. Once they have the pitch down I have a training guide I make them learn and quiz them on. I then spy on them talking to customers to make sure they are using what they've been taught.
What you described is someone with a good attitude, but who has either not been properly trained, or refused to follow the training. if trained properly closing should be natural for the rep and they should do it without even consciously thinking. Sales is simple stupid. It's basically instincts that we don't naturally have, that need to be taught and hammered in. Like a language. |

^door to door not over the phone. and i've done other sales jobs also(closing large accounts over the phone actually was one of them). All the basics apply across the board ;-)
A job like I teach is a stepping stone to larger sales jobs for the reps(learning the basic skills) if they want to stay a salesman, but a good career for management. |
