So, you have no money, but you are supposed to bus across the country, to hop on a plane and fly away.
It's really easy to give solutions when you don't have to do it yourself. Quote:
I'm curious, what makes you such an expert on Thailand's politics and people. |

I'd imagine some of these people hearing whats going on would assume the worse and don't know they're not in any danger. That's just how people are. |

I so wish I was there right now. Unless you're hanging out at the airport, being in Bangkok you wouldn't have the slightest idea what was going on unless you're watching the news.
I understand it sucks for some people but for me being stuck there and having a legitimate excuse for work would be a dream come true! |

It's a tourists responsibility to travel with enough money for emergencies not the governments.
The people that are running out of money can move out of the $150++ per night hotels into something clean and respecatable for $30 and even cheaper. Even someone who lost all of his money can sleep in a temple with the monks for free if he really had to! It's simple to leave the country of Thailand right now. Take the bus/train to Malaysia. The trains are air conditioned and comfortable to sleep in if you want them to be. You could also exit through Cambodia or Laos and then fly to an international port, although that would be more time consuming and pricier. In other words lots of options! Malaysia and Singapore have international airports that fly pretty much anywhere. When I was there after the coup, strippers were dancing on the tanks. It's a really strange country. For the most part it's very safe. |

What I meant is the people who are likely running our of money are the older people who are staying in the nicer hotels. That's the people I've seen complaining on the news anyway. That would be my guess anyway as I doubt someone on a backpackers budget would start to run out of money after 6 days of being stuck somewhere. I'd hope not anyway!
I feel bad for anyone stuck there, it would suck. But I do not think it justifies our taxpayers to evacuate them unless their life is in danger. But as I mentioned it's simple to downgrade your hotel. Personally I'm comfortable with a $4.00 to $8.00 room, but even paying $20ish you can get a fairly decent place with air conditioning, clean room, hotel lobby, hot water and private bathroom etc. If you eat where the locals eat instead of the tourist places that will cost 80% less. |

It's not doom and gloom for them, a major inconvience though. Immediate evacuation isn't nessesary, but it will have to occur if the problem isn't remedied soon. |

Dante Hicks: Have you become so embittered that you now feel the need to attack the handicapped? Randal Graves: What handicap? They guy's just in a wheelchair, it's not like he's Anne Frank or something. Dante Hicks: Anne Frank? Randal Graves: Yeah, Anne Frank. The chick that was all duhhh, till the miracle worker showed up and knocked some smarts into her. Dante Hicks: You're talking about Helen Keller. Randal Graves: No I'm not, I'm talking about Anne Frank. She was deaf, dumb and blind. Dante Hicks: No she wasn't. Helen Keller was deaf, dumb and blind. Randal Graves: Are you sure? Dante Hicks: Yup. Randal Graves: Then who the fuck's Anne Frank? |

I have a client in Thailand who doesn't seem too concerned, and my colleague has a girl who decided to stay in Laos until the situation clears up and she can come home through Bangkok. They're just chillin and making the best of it. Awesome. I'm jealous of the experience.
