Scared of what....
Im getting the impression that you watch a lot of Fox News. If I was desperate to leave Thailand I would hop on a bus or train to Kuala Lumpar, they cant be that worried if they arent willing to do that. I find it hilarious all these canadians complaining that the cnd govt hasnt helped them, lol you are on vacation in almost zero danger, figure it out for yourselves chumps. I'm not trying to fear monger, which is generally what FOX likes to try to do. But to say that it's not scary is just being blind to the risks going on out there. |

The city of Bangkok is going on business as usual, if you could hop on a plane and leave you would have no idea anything was happening in the country. People need to stop being afraid of everything, or atleast look into the situation before deciding its big, bad and scary. |

I'm not saying that people should be afraid, I'm just saying that you shouldn't be surprised that they are. |

Government action like last week that led to 49 people being injured by hand grenades maybe...?
Or the car bombs that went off earlier this month injuring 71... Saying, "whatever, everything's business as usual," displays a level of ignorance to world politics that's just staggering. Last edited by NinjaBoy; Dec 01, 08 at 01:45 PM. |

People can be afraid if they choose to be. However, the best counter to fear is information. I know if were in a city where some big things were happening I would be researching the issues, if these people had done that then they would not be afraid.
My biggest issue with these people is their expectation that Canada should be there to fly them out in a jiffy as if they are so special, we arent talking about civil war here or terrorism, no tourist who stays away from demonstrations is in any danger. |

in mumbai that is basically full on warfare between nations. the situation in thailand right now is a domestic internal one and considering the amount of time ive spent and from what ive seen over there sitting through a political coup in bangkok dosent seem like the end of the world to me. but i can certainly see how it would be for some. |

You call me ignorant by refrencing a situation that is entirely seperate from the current situation in Bangkok. The deep south of Thailand is not a particularly safe place, and not a lot of tourists go there. (This is where your bomb went off) These provinces in the south are muslim and their grievances are entirely differant from the issues PAD are demonstrating for. I think the only thing that is staggering is your condescending ego stroking and lack of any real knowledge. Last edited by brit; Dec 01, 08 at 02:17 PM. |

Hand grenade attacks were specific to the protest groups holding the PM's office. Even the most militant of thai revolutionaires would not harm innocent tourists on purpose. Car bombings in the south is another Completely different case. The south of thailand has always been a pretty dangerous region rife with islamic extremists trying to break away the southern provinces. I came close to visiting the southern provinces but I decided to take a diving course on ko-tao instead....a tough choice its staggering the amount of insight you gain when you actually get out into the world and visit these places...
