I gotta start making some time to watch Washington/Pitt. Based on what I've seen I really think Pitt is going to come back and take it, unless Varlamov can steal a game or two for the Caps.

I've been a massive Luongo supporter since he's been here, but in all honesty last night was unacceptable. Yes I realize that bad days happen to everyone, and we're all human, but please don't tell me that a better performance was not to be expected.

Luongo had the worst game of his life last night, and it came at the worst possible time. I do realize that it wasn't completely his fault, but at the same time, 4 goals on 9 shots and giving up 2 leads in the third period of an elimination game....... unthinkable for someone of his caliber.

It brings to mind that Luongo is often mentioned with names such as Roy and Brodeur, the key difference being that Luongo has yet to be "clutch" when it counts. IMO Luongo will one day be mentioned with those two, but the time isn't now.

There is never a game where you can say 20 shots are always the same and he should make X saves vs Y shots. Other then maybe two suspect goals, he played solid. Tons of great saves, all through the season, and playoff's including this one.

Not his best game. But he's still a great goalie. I would look more carefully at the Canuck's defense then the Canuck's goalie.

Those are two goalies that have played for far far longer, so who ever is comparing them needs to have their head checked.

I love how they come out of the woodwork as soon as you even mention a chink in his armor.

Listen. I never said he's a bad goalie, that I don't like him, or that he should be traded. I stated that last night was the worst game of his life, which by all accounts it was. I'm not saying that this one game defines him, but it does show that while he may be a great tender, he has yet to prove himself on a stage that counts. Yes the D definitely played a factor in the goals, especially in games 4+5, however Luongo still needed to be better.

I take it from your comment about Brodeur/Roy that you wouldn't consider them in the same league. Kind of funny seeing as how his name is almost always mentioned with Brodeur's, especially being a hot topic as to the Olympic starter for next year. Regardless, tender longevity should really have nothing to do with it. Roy won a cup in his rookie year, Brodeur in his second......

I've heard this once, and considering my office, if this was said by "Pretty much every pro Canuck hockey pundit" I would have probably heard it more often.

With much stronger teams. Using the fact that Luongo didn't win the cup (what happened to the rest of the team) and Roy did (what happened to the rest of his team) is pretty weak.

Luongo is a great goalie. He played a weak game, as did a lot of the team.

It was more of a response to your statement that Luongo should only be compared to Brodeur/Roy because of their longevity. What I was trying to say was that those two are who they are because they were great from start to finish, and seeing as *most do compare Luongo to Brodeur (at least), then really it shouldn't be based on how long it takes Luongo to "get there". He should by all accounts already "have it", and that has yet to be proven.

Like I said in my original post, I do believe that Luongo will go down as one of the greats, but his moment hasn't come yet.

*most meaning every TSN/Sportsnet/Score analyst, Hockey Canada, etc.

The one overriding thought I can't shake over the last 24 hours

"This team was supposed to be different".

And they were. But not different enough.

in perspective, the amount of doom and gloom surrounding the team before the season started was incredible. picked to finish last in nw, if not flirt with the worst of the west. people talking shit. if you think about the amount of busts we've had for supposedly "offensive" players we far surpassed anyones expectations.

im stoked, i mean of course getting further have been great and i think we were capable of it, but this team has proved so many people wrong with its hard work and great play.

grats nucks gg

The Canucks had a good run. We finished first in the Northwest Division and made it to the second round of the playoffs. I wonder what changes will be made to the team.

Right back at you dude. We're going to have to come up with a new theme for the threads next year tho...

Looking forward to GM MG's moves in the months to come. I thought he was great last year, and I'm excited to see what he comes up with for next season.

WE DID NOT HAVE A MAGICAL PLAYOFF RUN LIKE 94 THEREFORE FIRE/TRADE EVERYONE.

Although I must admit, the words "Fire Vignault" were typed by me this season

So now going into next year, Luongo is going to be carrying the tag previously reserved for lesser goalies: "Can't win the big game".

There's only one way to shake it. We'll see if he can. In the meantime he's such a guaranteed performer in the regular season that to get rid of him is to get rid of our meal ticket to a return to playoffs in 2010.

let's just hope they rethink his workload for the year, especially if he's named the olympic starter. no way he plays 75 games, the olympics, and then carries us to the promised land all in the same year.

They should get rid of laburnaby, offer Schneider 4-6 years at like 800K, and get him some experience so if Luo decides to split, we'll have "some" experience in net.

combined with the evidence that a Vancouver group wants to purchase the Thrashers and move them to Hamilton....... Tony's got a story =)

As much as I'd like to believe this, the missed calls weren't why we lost the series.

Obviously not. Makes you think though, it wouldn't suprise me at all if there's a grain of truth to it. Bettman is desperate to revive failing american markets, it's in his best interests for teams like Chicago to be successful...

You're way off. Worst game of his life? Not even close.

First off, It was a high scoring game. Khabibulin let in fuckin 5 goals and got beat a couple other times with shots that hit the post or players fanning on it. It was just one of those games. Both teams were scoring a lot. The canucks just took some shitty penalties and got some bad calls (which led to goals in other games as well).

Luongo actually made some great saves and was only truly beat on maybe two of those goals. The one where Kane swooped in and backhanded it would have gone in on any goalie, that was just a fuckin nice goal. And any other goal was immediately after someone turned the puck over (which happened in other games as well).

Luongo is still a solid goalie. All this talk about him falling off and he needs to be traded is ridiculous. It's like when the team loses 5 games straight everyone shouts "FIRE THE COACH OMG!1!!!" How bout you look at the mooks like O'Brien turning the puck over or slashing or hooking uneccesarily, leading directly to the other team scoring.

Or all the forwards who never fucking score. We get mild results from almost everyone on the team. Kesler and Burrows were pretty good at the end of the year, but were lukewarm in the last series....the sedins are always pretty solid but still not amazing compared to other star players in the league....We're looking for scoring from random guys like Wellwood and Raymond when we should be getting it from other players. Sundin can be good when he's good but that happens about once every 5 games. We need more scoring, plain and simple, and they need to stop taking so many fucking penalties. You are not allowed to hook: Don't fucking hook. Keep your stick on the ice.
