Not his best game. But he's still a great goalie. I would look more carefully at the Canuck's defense then the Canuck's goalie. Quote:

I love how they come out of the woodwork as soon as you even mention a chink in his armor.
Listen. I never said he's a bad goalie, that I don't like him, or that he should be traded. I stated that last night was the worst game of his life, which by all accounts it was. I'm not saying that this one game defines him, but it does show that while he may be a great tender, he has yet to prove himself on a stage that counts. Yes the D definitely played a factor in the goals, especially in games 4+5, however Luongo still needed to be better. I take it from your comment about Brodeur/Roy that you wouldn't consider them in the same league. Kind of funny seeing as how his name is almost always mentioned with Brodeur's, especially being a hot topic as to the Olympic starter for next year. Regardless, tender longevity should really have nothing to do with it. Roy won a cup in his rookie year, Brodeur in his second...... |

Luongo is a great goalie. He played a weak game, as did a lot of the team. |

Like I said in my original post, I do believe that Luongo will go down as one of the greats, but his moment hasn't come yet. *most meaning every TSN/Sportsnet/Score analyst, Hockey Canada, etc. |

in perspective, the amount of doom and gloom surrounding the team before the season started was incredible. picked to finish last in nw, if not flirt with the worst of the west. people talking shit. if you think about the amount of busts we've had for supposedly "offensive" players we far surpassed anyones expectations.
im stoked, i mean of course getting further have been great and i think we were capable of it, but this team has proved so many people wrong with its hard work and great play. grats nucks gg |

Looking forward to GM MG's moves in the months to come. I thought he was great last year, and I'm excited to see what he comes up with for next season. |

So now going into next year, Luongo is going to be carrying the tag previously reserved for lesser goalies: "Can't win the big game".
There's only one way to shake it. We'll see if he can. In the meantime he's such a guaranteed performer in the regular season that to get rid of him is to get rid of our meal ticket to a return to playoffs in 2010. |

let's just hope they rethink his workload for the year, especially if he's named the olympic starter. no way he plays 75 games, the olympics, and then carries us to the promised land all in the same year.
They should get rid of laburnaby, offer Schneider 4-6 years at like 800K, and get him some experience so if Luo decides to split, we'll have "some" experience in net. |

Obviously not. Makes you think though, it wouldn't suprise me at all if there's a grain of truth to it. Bettman is desperate to revive failing american markets, it's in his best interests for teams like Chicago to be successful...

First off, It was a high scoring game. Khabibulin let in fuckin 5 goals and got beat a couple other times with shots that hit the post or players fanning on it. It was just one of those games. Both teams were scoring a lot. The canucks just took some shitty penalties and got some bad calls (which led to goals in other games as well). Luongo actually made some great saves and was only truly beat on maybe two of those goals. The one where Kane swooped in and backhanded it would have gone in on any goalie, that was just a fuckin nice goal. And any other goal was immediately after someone turned the puck over (which happened in other games as well). Luongo is still a solid goalie. All this talk about him falling off and he needs to be traded is ridiculous. It's like when the team loses 5 games straight everyone shouts "FIRE THE COACH OMG!1!!!" How bout you look at the mooks like O'Brien turning the puck over or slashing or hooking uneccesarily, leading directly to the other team scoring. Or all the forwards who never fucking score. We get mild results from almost everyone on the team. Kesler and Burrows were pretty good at the end of the year, but were lukewarm in the last series....the sedins are always pretty solid but still not amazing compared to other star players in the league....We're looking for scoring from random guys like Wellwood and Raymond when we should be getting it from other players. Sundin can be good when he's good but that happens about once every 5 games. We need more scoring, plain and simple, and they need to stop taking so many fucking penalties. You are not allowed to hook: Don't fucking hook. Keep your stick on the ice. |
