Yeah, because a device running at 3.6v that uses (probably) membrane switches is going to create a spark hot enough to ingite all those fumes that somehow instantly permeate the button pad in a high enough quantity to ignite. ;)

I think it's just a way to get people off cell phones, so maybe it's not all bad.

Technically RF radiation can induce enough static electricity to cause a spark. However, I've worked around millions of Litres of Jet Fuel and 100 Octane Aviation Gas and I used my Cellphone in the Truck and on top of the Jet Fuel Storage Tank and I'm still uncharred... lol I use my Phone at the Gas Station and the attendant gets all huffy. I told him what I used to do and he's all like "No... let me do it..." heh heh I'm such a shit disturber. WHAT'S WRONG WITH A CATASTROPHIC FIREBALL!@#$@!?!

Myth busters proved that one wrong!!!! It's more likely to happen from a static charge made when a person jumps back into the car while the gas is pumping. Then when they get back out,if they forget to discharge by touching anything,they can cause an electric charge when putting their hand too close to the pump. (Or something like that.)
But still very uncommon. :)

^ ya....I found that either gatorade or water with a hint of salt, and lemon juice does the trick too....I know it sounds gross, but its saved me so many hours of having an agro dome... :)

dude, what do you think gatorade is made out of?

just add some sugar and potassium to your mix and you've pretty much got a much cheaper version of gatorade!
