lill south west of Thialand, Maliasia, Singapore...
farther south east of Sri Lanka/India
very far east of Africa/Oman/Marishis

To make it to Tokyo it would have to JUMP over thialand, cambodia, veitnam, INTO the Pacific Ocean and go through hong kong, china, and parts of southern japan to hit tokyo...
People in tokyo might feel the ground shake

and just becuase there is land in between doenst mean the tsunami wont get there..... tsunami is cause my movement of the sea floor.... if the sea floor moves anywhere then a tsunami can occur where ever

^Yes it does. The land in between breaks the waves motion.

^Yes it does! The wave radiates out from where movement occurs. It can move around islands but waves don't just spontaineously occur in the water.

ps - rad argument.

the wave is created at the fault in the plates....so, in a way you are both right. if their was an earthquake near japan, in the pacific, then japan would feel it for sure.
but like robyn said, the land breaks the momentum of the wave...it is usually only one massive wave that is created, and that is what causes the majority of the destruction, other smaller ones are created by the movement of the larger one, but they are much less in size.

Yes ,, true..... but when the plates shift together... they dont just move in one spot ... they can move in many places... the point of origin will have the greatest tsunami but tectonic plates cover 1/4 of the globe... so if it moves in one spot it can move in another spot....

in conclusion .. tsunami can occur where ever the tectonic plates move against each other... so a tsunami can occur on the other side of the islands or near tokyo.... it might not be as severe as the epicenter but it can and does happen...as long as there is relative motion between two or more plates and water then a tsunami will occur....

im not saying that is true... im just using that as an exampleto demonstrate the size of these plates and the fact that they cover huge distances ... (if the plate moves in one spot , then it can move in another spot becuase it is one giant plate.. hundreds of miles wide)

as far as i ever learned, the plates cover the whole earth... it just so happens that there is land on them, and quakes occur near fault lines.

so, yes i "know what you are saying. mmmmmm nnnnn nn mmmmmmm"

the news is saying there might be over 23000 dead and missing.... this is crazy

but whats odd to me is the fact that 20000 plus die everyday due to war .. starvation and disease, but no one mentions this,

but when a disaster like this happens everyone is all sympathetic and shit like that.....

why does an earthquake have to bring out the sypathetic side of people.
i dont understand sometimes.. mmmmm nnnn nmmmmmmmm nnnnnn mmm nnn

Its really hard to say as a great deal of common tourist spots were hit... and hit hard. I know a bunch of us who have been there recently really wish to go back jsut to volenteer and help out.

The Thai's really amaze me though. I remember going to one small resort (we choose it since they braged so much about the amazing bar on the beach) Funny thing is when we got there "oh bar buned down two days ago". I can imagine this being a huge tragedy to the familey who ran the place especialy during low season. However days later and they were already on their way to rebuilding it. I also remembering watching a hut being built in like 3 days!!! I think the Thai's are strong ppl and will be quick to re build and start over again.
If that area doesnt look posible, theres still planety of gorgouse Thialnd left to check out that wasnt hit so badly :)

of course plates cover the whole earth... if not then there would be a huge hole of molten magma exposed (which is impossible)

And the land we are on is the plates itself... we are not set stationary on the plates ,, we move with the plates becuase we are one with them

you know what im saying mmmmmmm nnnn mmmmmmmmmmmm
