I know they've got Tsunami/Wave Monitoring Equipment on Langara Island to provide early warning of such things. My Parents and myself lived there for awhile. There's also a fault line that cuts through that Island. What a lovely volitile part of the Coast we live on.

The sad part of all of this is it could have been avoided. Alaska, Hawaii and other coastal cities all have monitoring equipment for off shore earthquakes. A simple siren, along the beaches of coastal cities would have been enough time for people to head inland. Maybe now the govt will pay for the equipment.

Walking down the streets of Bangkok and welders would work only a meter above the bissy side walks... Not even a sighn to warn ppl of the dangerouse sparks raining down. If you walk by a construction zone... all the workers have are helmets, a scarf around their mouth, and sighns posted in Thia & English "Safty First" |

It's crazy. The freakiest part is these people weren't warned. The earthquake happened in the sea, and a few hours later the tidal wave hit. People had no way of knowing about the wave. What if someone was sleeping and suddenly you just wake up to the sound of the water crashing into your house? *shudders*
If a quake were to hit tokyo, and send a tidal wave through the ocean to here, wouldn't we pick up on it? It would take more than a few hours wouldn't it? Also, I read our government is giving $1 million for the cause. I think it's great, but I'm wondering if we really have the money for that. |

There giving even more! I think another $2 mill to the red cross...
I usualy dont give money to charity, but it's really effected me more after beign there... I think I can avored $5-$10 to the red cross. The UN is calling this one of the bigest diasters ever. It's hit so many countries and now their concernd about desieses. The problem has only began. Last edited by Ree Fresh; Dec 27, 04 at 09:28 PM. |
