Just when you thought it couldn't get any more worse....

On Dec. 26, 2003, a 6.6 quake hit the ancient city of Bam in Iran. While the quake was much smaller than the one that struck near the island of Sumatra Sunday, its epicenter was directly under the city.

On Dec. 26, 2004, the 9.0 quake struck in South Asia. While the death toll will be much higher, most of the destructiveness was the result of the giant waves triggered by the earth's movement under the India Ocean.

The 2003 quake hit at 01:56:52 UTC, while the 2004 quake struck at 00:58:55 UTC – exactly one year, 58 minutes apart.

Its only been about 72hours since the intial strike, 100,000 so far confirmed dead, this will triple by Jan 1st, once all the 6000 mini islands have been surveyed.

It's 'Day After Tomorrow' coming to real life; first its snow in Texas, Tornado's in Los Angeles.

Where's the USNS MERCY when you need her?

If you walk by a construction zone... all the workers have are helmets, a scarf around their mouth, and sighns posted in Thia & English "Safty First"
Indeed.

The cost of such a project would be around 5 million..

im thinking the thai government knew the trsunami was comming, along with the other countries that got hit. its just calling the siren would effect the economy and other factors greatly. they did not want to risk this huge downfall if they were to be wrong. because they read graphs a lot and see minor earthquakes very frequently, but they only realize how huge this is when it is really too late. of course they later regret that they didnt operate the evacuation plan. and suffer with many lives.
being raised in a third world country i see why they would do what they did, pretend like nothing is happening and just hope everything will be okay. country looks like shit and people are living like shit, and when they try so hard to get back on the feet and get richer, calling the siren can really kick them when they are down.
im saying i understand why they remained silent, of course i wouldnt choose too

the best thing you can do is send $. if you went to help, you would only consume more resources then the locals and be in the way. Unless you are trained or something.

just send $ man.

only 50,000 americans died in the vietnam war... we have never seen anything like this in our lifetimes or our parents. this many people have not died all at once, before...

populations are more than they should be, the earth is retaliating...

if you want to help them, send me a PM i will give u info on a fundraiser we are doing down here.

You know, if this was almost any other natural disaster I might be inclined to agree with you.

BUT. As far as I know, no-one has linked overpopulation to increasingly erratic movement of tectonic plates.

As soon as that happens, we'll let you know!
