damn you guys. i got all riled up and wanted to post back. =/
well, here it was in a nut shell: First off, Who the hell uses more than 1 number list (or number list within a number list) to prove a point in a post? I think the rave scene needs promoters who are willing to bring in more atrractions and entertainment along with genuine music talent. For instants... if promoters were to spend time to build custom props for each party, or brought in more live pa, or jugglers/circus clowns/stilt walkers (although it would be dangerous because of the water bottles he'd have to stilt through..), more parties filled with projections and large banners with logos and promoter names. The scene has to thrive off a positive reputation of itself. We gotta be competing against one another as promoters on a creative scale because in truth, creativity and WOW factor and originality are the only things that the partiers can remember and take pictures of and post on forums and put in picture books. If we don't challenge ourselves as a scene, no one else will. we won't get better. Forget the humility, and the popularity and whatever whatever. All in all, most people won't know you, but the hardcore partiers will. Whenever i hear or read criticism, i don't take it offensively. But as an honest comment of criticism. We don't have to go off and blow up at one another because of the mean little things we say People who throw and help market parties to the unknowing public need to diversify with more schemes and creative attractions. magicians, custume parties, foam parties, balloon parties, full moon parties, outdoor parties, warehouse parties, hall parties, house parties, club parties... just keep changing up your flavors. i swear to god. things will change if we compete in the right way and listen to the complaints and improve upon them without humility. and give away free candy. like lollipops. ravers love that. =) Last edited by Mr Ektion; Nov 17, 04 at 05:27 PM. |

i agree. it would be memorable if the set up's were more creative... sure the set up's are crazy.. but to me.. all rave set ups seem the same.. it doesnt cost much to get little props.. hell jus get a couple ravers to do them.. and in return give them glist or sumthin? that will make them a happy camper. seriously.. diversify and be creative... instead of the whole rave=drugs it could be something else.. jus change the image of YOU'RE parties... who cares who else is doing it... do it urselves and u'll see how many ppl will talk about, and come to ur parties. think about it. |

Myles, this thread was made two fing years ago. and look how far that discussion got people! they want to rise it from the dead two years later. beating the dead horse OK. if the scene sucks, it's less productive to figure out 'why' than it is to like, change things. |

I hoped for nothing more (from me) but...
My only point here was that the negativity sucks. Whether it be on this board, between promoters, electronic genre's or even different types of music altogether, this city, heck why not even the whole of Canada!! No but really, back to the Vancouver 'scene'. We ARE very lucky for what we have and I reckon were are definitely the the best in Canada for electronic music. Going back to the reason why we have so many DJ's who want to come here. There is something without fail going on every weekend. We should be happy shouldn't we? And support it and try and make it bigger. On the other hand, I was just reading about Sydney's Big Field Day 2005 for New Year's Eve, an all electronic music party for 25,000 people. I just talked to my friend in Sydney and he informed me that it is already sold out. What in Canada is already sold out for NYE?!!! Check it at ----> http://www.spraci.com/events/36880/ But that's just an example; we aren't there. So we must be happy with what we have and support it. Period. And, yes, we pretty much are beating a dead horse here. The scene isn't gonna magically become the utopia that it is in other countries. But, at least the infighting could be decreased. But then again that's probably the maggots on the horse and they gotta live too! Last edited by SquiLa; Nov 18, 04 at 07:22 AM. |

The scene sucks because 90 % of ppl who go to raves/clubs dont appreciate the music, they can have locals playing with horrible mixing and theyll still love it.
The rave companies run this town and they are making waaaay too much money to start caring about booking someone half decent or lowering ticket prices Example: In calgary a much smaller scene, smaller venue will have Johan Gielen, Cosmic Gate and Guyver at an event with tickets ranging from 30-45 $ 45 being the max, here, in a much larger venue (almost 2ice the size), much bigger scene an event will have BT, CJ Stone and Kai Tracid, one expensive one isnt and the other one isnt even a DJ, and tickets will range from 60 STARTING PRICE (Never before in Vancouver) up to the hundreds Dont listen to the bs that Solid say that their not making that much money, they did what they did on halloween to make Twisted lose ground and money, so they can take the real money on NYE, when the kiddies think that the PNE rave is gonna rawk and with one actually good live headliner they are gonna make serious bank Union is trying to do what they can, booking people for their talent, and not commercialized cheese "Rave" status, but for some reason they dont get the crowd I expected they will, maybe with time, but to be completeley honest I dont see the Vancouver Trance scene getting that much better for about 5 years (When Trance SERIOUSLY hits North America in a commercialized way like other genres did before) No point in bitching tho, the kids are the ones who suffer who have to fork out crazy amounts of money, because they cant go to clubs, and if they dont go to raves, they will experience nothing untill they are 19, and no one can wait that long My 0.02$ |
