poli sci majors are the most irritating people in arts, most seem to believe that their degree is somehow infinitely more useful than any other BA. maybe it would be if it wasn't the major de jour, and saturated with keeners who believe it'll be their leg up into law school.

no thats not sociology.

like jake said theres alot of different types of sociology. i prefer social science becauses its more of a science and it involves quantitative reaserch about different aspects of society. where as alot of the sociology covered within ubc strictly relates to theoritical issuses with no practicle application.

im also not a big fan of deconstructive/critical sociology/poli sci...while its good to take maybe a course on it or cover a few notable theories so one is able to recognize the flaw in trusting cetain 'experts' preaching 'common sense' on the basis of rather dubious science/ideology. I find its pretty much garabge because its impossible to form a logically coherent framework for socioloical analysis if your steeped in bullshit post modernist discourses which like to debase (wether warrented or not) analytical typologies and definitions. the way i see it critical/deconstructive theory really has no where to go it dosnt serve to to help us with anyhting, its lieka step backwards.

yeha also alot of them work in Human resources, or any position which requires alot of research and conceptual thinking

i think the most usefull arts degree would be an economics degree. the students/professors that i knew in economics tended to be irritated by all other arts students save for psych, but especially poli sci and sociology majors. This is mainly because econom majors are in my experience the most cold hearted and unidealistic people in the arts and as a result they think that people who major in sociology and poli sci dont really understand how the world operates and that they will graduate and then get into power and write policies that will fuck everyone else over...
